To kick it off, the new board of officers and chairpersons will be introduced. Members will be treated to the "Lure of Chocolate" desserts in honor of Valentine's Day. We will learn some facts about chocolate, such as its association with Valentine's Day. Why is chocolate so irresistible? Mark your calendars for Fri., Jan. 23, at 11:30 am in the South Clubhouse. Wear your red. With chilly weather upon us, we will be exploring soup in February. Join us for "Soup Sensations." Members will have an opportunity to share their favorite soup recipes with the club. Civil Air Patrol (CAP) provides an important community service and is an opportunity for both young and old to serve their community. We encourage all to attend and see how they might contribute. We will host a presentation and talk concerning the history and activities of the CAP. The presentation will be on Tues., Jan. 27, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm, at the Sun Lakes Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The CAP is an important group of nearly 60,000 volunteers. There are 10 CAP squadrons near us, including Palm Springs, Hemet, Big Bear, March ARB, and Riverside. CAP members include cadets ranging in age from 12 to 21, and active senior members ranging from 21 to more than 90 years of age, serve our communities performing search and rescue missions, disaster relief assistance, counter-drug activities, humanitarian missions, immigration control support, and other missions of benefit to us all. This presentation will cover the history of the CAP, their training activities, the equipment and facilities, and will show examples of the various CAP activities. The presentation will be made by Captain Tom Sheahan, CAP, a resident of Sun Lakes and a volunteer member of Riverside Senior Squadron 5. Tom is an FAA-certified private pilot, and serves as Administrative Officer, Professional Development Officer, and Legal Officer for CAP.
