health & spoRts Clubs | sun lakes lIfestyles | JanuaRy 2015 | 37 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes First of all, happy new year to everyone. Who knows what this new year will bring. Nothing but good things we hope. As of this writing, not much has changed from last month. First place is still being held by Sweeper Creepers. These bowlers will be hard to catch. Marlene Gartman, Gail Stormes, Larry Stormes, and Andy Toro have increased their lead to 6 ½ games. Killer Kegler is still in second place, P.P. Garcia, Shirley Mc Donald, and Ed Collatz, and a vacancy are doing all that they can to keep the Ravens behind them in third place. The Ravens are Maureen Condon, Burt Garbell, Joe Griffin, and Bob Mejia. For the men, Andy Toro has high Scratch Series with 765, Bruce Herwig has high Scratch Game with 278, George Chavez has high handicap Series with 782, and Ray Roberson has high handicap game with 296. For the women Gail Stormes has high Scratch series with 550, Marty Steggell has high scratch game with 216, Bonnie Greene has high handicap series with 741, and Donna Leone has high handicap game with 264. "Bowling is all physics and energy distribution. It's F = ma. (Force = mass x acceleration.) So it is actually one of the most science-y sports, because it literally is just a ball and a surface and objects to knock down." ~ Chris Hardwick We still have three spots on our teams that need filled. If you or a friend are interested please call me at 769-4205. Home Again Bowling Moreno Valley Monday Our Wednesday League members were treated to a SUPER BOWL performance by resident George Thiel the day before Thanksgiving. Already leading the 66 member league with a 206.80 average, George rolled a perfect 300 1st game. He followed with a 280 2nd game with 11 strikes and a 2nd frame spare. His 3rd game total of 259 was icing on the cake… a scratch series of 839. His series of 866 with his handicap added is a "whopper." This raised his season average to 213.42 after the 12th week. This is almost unbelievable. Congratulations George Thiel. Of interest is the fact that if this had been in a "No-Tap" tournament, his scores would have been 300-300- 300 for a perfect 900.
