I can't! It seems only yesterday I wondered if I would live to the '80s or '90s let alone beyond the year 2000. How time flies when you are having fun. When you look back over the past years, there are so many things to be thankful for. The place we live, our friends and neighbors, the lifestyle we enjoy, all come to mind. I would begin with the Delegates. What a wonderful bunch of volunteers, working for their neighbors. They are the communicators, the editors, the social directors for their districts. Without them we would not know what is going on in our community nor would we have met so many people as we do at our social events. I am very fortunate being a part of their group and working with them for the benefit of our people. If you want something done, or want some information, or want to know what to do in a certain situation, call your delegate. Think back, would you have thought 5 or 10 or 20 years ago that you would live in a gated community with all of the amenities we enjoy? What more could we want to make our lives better? We can thank the original builder, Presley Construction, and the many Boards of Directors for organizing this complex and setting up the financial foundation that we live by today. Beyond a doubt, we are one of the most solvent senior common-interest complexes in the country. It is a shame only a small percentage of our people use our courses, our pools, our clubhouses and restaurants, our tennis courts and the other amenities. "It's The People!" That was a Presley sales slogan. After you have lived here for awhile, it dawns on you that the slogan is true. As you drive down the street, you see a few neighbors in front of their home gabbing, or they wave at you as you drive by. Go to the clubhouse, pool or anywhere else and someone will come up to you and start a conversation. Presley was right, It's The People! As the year 2015 begins, let's make it even better. We always need more volunteers, more participation in our activities. If you have a neighbor who doesn't join in the district events, knock on their door and invite them to join you. Say "hi" to people you don't know and wave as the cars go by, that's the way we live at Sun Lakes. deleGate aSSeMBly RepORt Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly 4 | sun lakes lIfestyles | JanuaRy 2015 | CommunIty news Hello and happy new year. As your golf course superintendent, the New Year carries a positive feeling of continued improvement of turf conditions here at Sun Lakes. Without having a crystal ball for the potential for rainfall, it is highly doubtful the Banning Pass will get enough rain this winter to take us out of our drought situation. One clear concern will be how we move forward with our use of water. As I have said before, our golf courses are being monitored daily for the amount of water needed to keep the course healthy. We are alternating water events and deferring watering areas of turf which are not considered primary areas of play. Nozzle evaluations and sprinkler head retrofitting is being done. The efficiency of water placement and delivery on both of the courses are improving every day, with more improvement coming in 2015. One very important question which will be asked in 2015 is 'where do you draw the line?' One potential option might be less turf, less water? Here are a few quick reminders to help keep the golf course going in the right direction: • Enter/exit the new bunkers from the lowest points • Drive golf cars in the roughs whenever possible • Follow the course signage • Repair ball marks. Keep in mind your ball mark could be 15 feet from your ball. See you out on the course. ~ Mark Burchfield, Golf Course Superintendent Golf Course Update Welcome!
