COMMUNITY NEWS | FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2015 15 As all of us are painfully aware, even with the recent rains California's drought is far from over. So we comply with the city's watering restrictions: odd numbered addresses water on Mondays and Fridays while even numbers water on Tuesdays and Saturdays; we turn off the water while brushing our teeth; we don't run water needlessly while rinsing dishes and loading the dishwasher, and we stay aware of other ways to conserve water. But many of us miss an opportunity to save lots of water: we forget to turn off our sprinklers while it's raining and to leave them off for days afterward. So we drown our lawns and our plants and we miss a chance to save some money. That's truly a lose-lose any way you look at it. With automated watering systems it's easy to turn them on and off. That makes it easy to help do your part in protecting California's precious water supply and it makes it easy to save money on your water bill. That's a win-win. And to save even more water and even more money, keep the watering system off after the rains stop. The soil retains water for quite a while after a rainstorm. How to tell when to turn the system back on? Stick your index finger into the soil to feel the moisture or dryness, use a trowel to turn up the soil, or ask your gardener/landscaper to check for you. It's a pretty easy way to act responsibly and a great way to start the new year: saving money and saving the water that's priceless. ~ Laurie Larson In case you have never really paid attention to the seemingly mysterious box in your garage, here are some pictures of your money saving gadget Our Veteran's Club website (fourseasonsvets.org) is continually being updated with current events pertaining to Veterans' information, the VA etc. We have added many new names to our club's roster, and many veterans living here still have yet to be included. They need to see Dick Bentley and fill out their history form and add a current photo. It will be reviewed and posted promptly, so share this with your neighbors. I have added a link called "NEWSWORTHY" where it will link directly to a specific current events page. Please surf through the entire website and reply with any comments to enhance the website. If there are things that need to be shared, let's share them. Dick and I have put in a lot of time to develop this website to honor you guys, and we would appreciate it very much if it is kept active by all. New content and feedback are definitely appreciated. That being said… If there is anyone who would like to post additional military photos, new or vintage, Class A's or fatigues, or whatever your dress was at the time, please forward it to me for inclusion in this new page to be added. Check out our website at fourseasonsvets.org. ~ Irve Sturner It's Raining Money! Your water saving gadget should be set at OFF when it rains Four Seasons Veterans "Roll of Honor"
