12 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2015 | COMMUNITY NEWS Neighborly Notes By Bobbie Eckel How about starting 2015 by volunteering to become a District Delegate or running for a Board of Director position? This is an ideal way to give back to your community. You can also become more involved by working on committees. If you are new to Four Seasons, visit the HOA Committees on our website to find an area of interest. The General Session of the BOD is held on the second Thursday of each month at 1 pm. At 12:45 pm Director Kevin Metcalfe will update residents regarding the progress of construction and planning for Four Seasons. It should be an interesting way to keep informed about our community planning. If you have specific questions you want answered, remember to submit your questions to the Lodge front desk by Tuesday of the second week. Beaumont's Lunch & Learn program for February will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the Senior Center, 1310 Oak Valley Parkway. Julie Fisher from Ascend Hospice will be speaking on Expressive Arts. Please call (951) 769-8539 to make reservations. Seating is limited. Did you know that Beaumont Senior Center has compiled a list of local care givers who have been fingerprinted and have had background checks so that they can provide temporary respite care for caregivers who are taking care of family members with physical or mental disabilities? The list has names and telephone numbers as well as the services which can be provided. Examples of services include housekeeping, transportation, cooking, feeding, sewing, laundry and many other daily chores. You may pick up one of the lists by going to the Senior Center and requesting a copy. The basic caregiver will be responsible for the terms of agreement and wages. The Senior Center is providing the information as a service to city residents. For those car buffs who are waiting for the new rules on driverless cars, the DMV is still trying to figure out how to regulate them. According to the LA Times Dec. 26 article presenting information from the DMV, a public workshop which seeks input from industry, consumer groups and advocates will be held at the end of January. Some rules on testing the autonomous cars did go into effect in May. Google's prototype car supposedly will be cruising northern California streets next year. BMW and Mercedes-Benz have also developed similar vehicles. Although researchers generally believe the cars to be safer because computers do not get distracted as human drivers do, current concerns about computer hacking as a potential problem need to be addressed. It will be interesting to see how these technical issues will be solved. Residents: we are having difficulties with groups and clubs not checking with Cindy Graves before changing times or dates of events — or not being sure about whether Cindy even knows about the proposed changes. To end this we are starting a changes form which must be completed with details disclosed, then initialed by Cindy or Nelly Alcocer. The form will then be sent to the Communications Committee to ensure that the calendar is changed accordingly. The form will be available by Jan. 16. No changes to the calendars will be made without having this form completed. On a closer-to-home topic, the Beaumont Senior Services Newsletter for January and February 2015 has a lot of useful information for residents dealing with financial advice, credit scores, ID theft and ways to make your home and income secure. If you have not yet signed up to receive the newsletter, call (951) 769-8539 and ask to be placed on their subscribers list. A series of "Did I read that sign right?" examples were circulated on the Internet in late October, 2014. Some of them were great fun. "Toilet Out of Order. Please Use Floor Below" was one of my favorites. Another in a laundromat advised "Automatic Washing Machines: Please remove all your clothes when the light goes out."
