HEALTH & SPORTS CLUBS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2015 | 33 The Spring Tournament begins the week of March 23rd. This is a ten-week tournament. If you wish to play and didn't play in the Winter Tournament, each member of a team must pay his/her club dues, $12 for the year, plus $3 team fee for the Spring Tournament. If you played the Winter Tournament, each team member need only pay the $3 team fee, $12 per team. This whole business gets confusing for many. Simply put, players pay the club membership fee, $12, once a year. The team fee of $3 per team member is paid each time you play a tournament. We have four tournaments a year, a seven-week Winter Tournament, and three 10- week tournaments in spring, summer and autumn. The times change with the season in an effort to foil Mother Nature! The Spring Tournament will be played Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and, possibly Thursday, depending on the number of teams we have, at 3, 4, 5 and 6 pm. If you plan to play this spring, you must have your entry in by March 13. If your team is new, stop by the courts at 1, 2, or 3 pm and get an entry form. They are in an envelope in our cabinet. The referees can steer you in the right direction. The form calls for your preferred day to play and asks for a second choice. Please don't circle a second choice if you can't play that day! Second choices make it easier to schedule and, hopefully, even up the teams each day. Entries and fees go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. There is a box at the door. If you want to play, but don't have a team, call Dutch at 845- 0392. She might be able to connect you to others in the same boat. Questions, call Dutch! Friends of Bocce Hey billiards players; do you enjoy the game of 8-Ball? If so, come on down to our Billiards Room any day except Sunday and practice with members of the 8-Ball Group. New players are more than welcome to join in. We usually arrive around noon and play until 2:30 pm or so. We 'pea' for partners and play to improve our 'game.' Competition is friendly, and helpful hints are common- place, as we're there to learn on those practice days. It's a bit more serious on tournament days. Every Thursday we host three matches here and one match at an away location nearby. While the competition is still friendly, there are no suggestions for improvement during these matches! If you want a more serious game, join a team and play in our tournaments. Cost is $15 for a three-month season. For more information, contact Steve Felber at 769- 6898 or SNFELBER@yahoo.com. If you're looking for the best way to start 2015 with some positive lifestyle changes (mentally or physically), look no further than the courts adjacent to the Main Clubhouse. Every day of the week you will find the opportunity to enjoy the essential exercise we all really need and the fellowship of players, who become more than just fellow players, but great friends! Whether it's the fastest growing sport in the country, Pickleball, or the longtime favorite, Paddle Tennis, you're guaranteed to have made a good decision… and playing both is always an option. We play every day of the week. Typical play for Pickleball is Monday through Saturday at 7:45 am. Paddle Tennis is played Tues., Thurs., Fri. and Sunday at 8 am and additionally on Tues. & Thurs. evenings at 5 pm (schedules change with daylight savings time). We always have paddles available for new players to check out the games. Congratulations to our newly elected board that was voted in at the Jan. 31, 2015 meeting, which resulted in these new officers: President, Wade Sampson; VP, Nancy Ebner and Treasurer, Carol Ellis. Our board has exciting plans for this year which will include our Club Championship tournament in April, with a party scheduled for April 25. Additionally, our Mixed Doubles Tournament will be held in October. Check out the bulletin board next to the courts for our member's roster, upcoming events, etc. Membership dues are $10 per year. See you at the courts! Pickleball & Paddle Tennis Sun Lakes Residents
