SOCIAL CLUBS & GROUPS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | MARCH 2015 |23 2015 has come with its challenges, both personally (caring for elderly parents) and for our Memory Care Group and community. As for my parents, they might not be alive when you read this. As for our group, we've had a guest speaker cancel, an entertainer cancel due to illness, not to mention the Main Clubhouse flood and our meeting and patient group being relocated to different rooms. Our next meeting and caregiver support group will be Thurs., March 19 at 10 am. Please make note, until further notice, we will meet in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom (lobby side). Our Arts and Craft Group (patient group) will meet in the bus room. Call me, Anne, at 845-8700, if you have any questions. Our guest speaker this month is Darlene Merkler from the Riverside County Office on Aging. Her topic is Taking Care of the Caregiver. Taking care of ourselves sometimes gets put on the back burner when we are caring for someone else. Don't miss this powerful guest speaker. Our caregiver support group begins immediately after Darlene Merkler. Take advantage of all our group has to offer. Don't forget about our Arts & Craft groups. This group (for the patient) is designed to help you the caregiver. Escort your loved one to the bus room on your way to the meeting. Anne Magnolia leads this group along with Pat Kahler, Sandy Richman, Lorie Wolf and Shelly Braatz. We play games, take walks and do whatever to make your loved one happy while you are attending the meeting. We really want to help… try us! Memory Care Group (Formerly Alzheimer's & Dementia Helpers) To help identify problems early, the Alzheimer's Association has created a list of 10 warning signs for Alzheimer's and other dementias. Here is Sign #8: Decreased or poor judgment. People with Alzheimer's disease may experience changes in judgment or decision making. For example, they may use poor judgment when dealing with money, giving large amounts to telemarketers. They may pay less attention to grooming or keeping themselves clean. What are typical age-related changes? Making a bad decision once in a while. We meet January through October, typically on the second Wednesday of the month, 11 am - 12:30 pm in the Main Clubhouse Bus Room. There are discussions on the latest findings and research, medications, nutrition, exercise, and coping skills brought to us by various speakers. Come to our group to learn and share your experience with others. Info., Gerri Piechowski, 769-2305. Parkinson's Support
