EXCURSIONS Santa Barbara & Solvang Mon., May 18 to Wed., May 20, $354 pp double, $545 pp single. Welcome aboard! Today we will be leaving Banning behind and heading out to Santa Barbara for a three day, two night fun-in-the-sun excursion. Santa Barbara, Riviera of the California Coast is where you have beautiful weather, first class shopping, wine and restaurants. We will stay for two nights at the beautiful Hyatt Hotel in Santa Barbara, across the street from the ocean. We will be treated to lunch on Sterns Wharf at the Harbor Restaurant with an ocean view. We will visit the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, which features relics from Chumash, Spanish, Mexican, Yankee and Chinese cultures, including artifacts, photographs, furnishings and textiles, dating as far back as the 15th century. A great spot for picture taking! We will also visit the Reagan Ranch Center with a docent tour which will include artifacts matched with state-of-the-art, interactive, multimedia exhibits that highlight the history of Ronald Reagan's quarter-century at Rancho del Cielo and the accomplishments of his presidency. We'll have time to check-out the new "Urban Wine Trail" created by a group of like-minded wineries. The Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail offers both novice and aficionados the opportunity to learn about, and taste, wines of many different varieties and styles crafted from Santa Barbara County's best vineyards. All located right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara (map will be provided). On this wonderful three day excursion we will head out to the Danish village of Solvang. Like a page out of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales, this picture-perfect village features dozens of import shops and boutiques, Danish bakeries and wonderful food. Afterwards you will be treated to a tasting and a mini-tour of the breathtaking Sun Stone Winery before heading back to Sun Lakes. This is a fascinating trip that you don't want to miss out on, so make sure you sign up today! EXCURSION SIGN UPS: MON., MARCH 2, 8 AM Griffith Observatory Thurs., May 28, 9:45 am to 7:15 pm, $70 pp. The Griffith Observatory has been a major Los Angeles landmark since 1935. It's visited by nearly two million people each year and ranks as one of the top tourist attractions of southern California. It sits on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood where it commands a stunning view of the Los Angeles basin below. The observatory, having recently undergone its first major renovation and expansion is now open to the public once again! Every system of the observatory, including the Samuel Oschin planetarium, has been refurbished and expanded. The project has more than doubled the public space in the building while maintaining the original classic look and feel. During your visit, you'll have time to explore the two large new exhibit areas and the expanded bookstore. You may want to experience the new state-of-the art Planetarium Theater. The observatory's exhibit program has also been restored, reconfigured, and greatly expanded. During the day, you'll also be treated to lunch at the Tam O'Shanter Inn. Established in 1922, the Tam O'Shanter is the original member of Lawry's restaurants, Inc. Known for its outstanding service, warm and inviting atmosphere, and perfectly prepared signature dishes, the Tam is, to many, a favorite place to celebrate fine food and friends. *Note: admission to the Planetarium Show is additional and can be purchased by guests upon arrival at the observatory.
