By Leighton McLaughlin District delegates have been elected in preparation for the vote in April to fill a seat on the HOA Board of Directors. Member Loren DuChesne, serving as vice president and secretary, is retiring after six years on the Board. President Jacque Sneddon and Treasurer Wayne Staples each have a year left on their terms. The delegates cast the votes that elect the Board members. They act much like members of the Electoral College in U.S. presidential elections – with a big difference. Delegates from districts that fail to have a majority of its households cast ballots can vote the district's total voting power as they see fit. Each of nine districts elected a delegate and an alternate. The alternate acts only in the absence of the delegate. The first vote count in the delegate election was Feb. 26, too late for inclusion in this issue of the Breeze. In the event that a quorum of 50 percent of the households was not met, a second count will be held for the deficient districts on March 5, with a reduced quorum of 25 percent. The candidates for district delegate were: District 1 - Martha Franck, Del Lyles, Sr. and Judith Rusche; District 2 – Randy Balt, Paul Esposito and Bill Guy; District 3 – Donald Fant and Betty Ann James; District 4 – Jean Sandoval and Niles Sundstrom; District 5 – Chryle Howard, Cathy Kolodge and Doug Smith; District 6 – Brian Anderson, Dale Beckes and Howard Lyon; District 7 – Noel Myers and Lynette Simonson; District 8 – Tom Halley, Pat Hilles and Barbara G. Morton; and District 9 – Grisel (Grace) Suchowski and Donna Sweeney. The top vote getter in each district will be the delegate and the second place finisher will be the alternate. A nominating committee of Don Fant, Louise Lyon and Bev McLaughlin recruited candidates and others filed on their own. The schedule for the Board election is as follows: • March 10: Deadline for Board candidates to file for election. • March 12: Meet the candidates forum in the Lodge. • March 16: Ballots mailed to homeowners. • April 14: Ballots counted at meeting of the district delegates. • April 16: Delegates cast their ballots at annual meeting of the association. • April 17: Election results posted. The seven-member HOA Board has three homeowner members and four members appointed by builder K. Hovnanian Homes. That arrangement will continue until final build-out when all members will elected from the community. FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2015 5 Board Elections: DuChesne Stepping Down
