Once a year I like to recognize the committee members by name. This is a hands on hard working committee, (like other committees), except we may have three or four members working every day! Our committee is as follows; Ann Page, Betty Barr, Blair Becker, Sue Corum, Betty Crase, Rosemary Luscombe, Kay Masonbrink, Cookie Scott, Char Weakley and Lis Woelke. Our Board liaison, Greg Rockvam, attends our meetings regularly and provides guidance when needed. In the beginning it was a room with shelves and some books under the guidance of Hal Townend. He loved that room and in 2006 I filled out a volunteer form to join Hal in our library. We had so much fun trying to sort through books such as encyclopedia's, cookbooks, computer books, some fiction and, of course, golf books! There was a table that you piled magazines on and the large round tables that are in the multipurpose rooms crowded the area. Meetings were held and games were played. It was hard to even get to the books in that over-crowded room. We really wanted something better but then my friend, Hal, left to go on the board. The rest is history. I formed a Library Committee and we got going. A magazine rack was approved. The most important item? A new cabinet to house our paperback books was approved. Meetings were no longer allowed in the room including the library committee. And, finally, the large tables were removed. The board approved a couch and a couple of tables and we now had the beginnings of the best 55+ community library ever! To get this room to where it is today took tons of ideas from the committee members and the vision of our board of directors. Encyclopedias were long gone and the residents started donating tons of fiction and many non-fiction hardbacks. Four Seasons residents built the rest of the library. Movies, books on tape, current magazines, fiction, non- fiction, hardbound and paperback books have all come from you! I thank Hal for loving that room so much and the support we have received from the board. It is a room to be proud of. Over and over I hear residents bringing their company to the Lodge to show off the room. While leaving the Lodge today there were two people on the couch reading, both chairs were occupied and two residents looking through books. That speaks volumes. Bring February, March and April magazines for us to display on our rack. Older ones will be carted to the Hemet library. Our paperback book display is from 2010-2015. Older ones will go to support the downtown library. One new and needed rule. No eating or drinking in the library. The best way to attract ants are those crumbs from chocolate chip cookies. A resident pointed out that more people are bringing lunches and snacks to enjoy their books with. Our chairs and sofa need protecting so please, eat before entering! Thanks. Committee member Sue has a book report this month. She read Sycamore Row by John Grisham. John Grisham takes the reader back to Clanton, Alabama where his book A Time to Kill was set. One of Clanton's wealthiest citizens, Seth Hubbard, is found hanging from a sycamore tree on his property. Seth has left a handwritten will leaving his estate to his housekeeper and he requested that Jake Brigance become the executor of the estate. The conflict and trial unfolds as family and strangers start making claims against the handwritten will. Once again, Mr. Grisham has written a book that is hard to put down. You will find this book in the hardbound section. Library Committee | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | April 2015 | 14 Facilities Committee The facilities committee meets the first and third Wednesdays to review and discuss current projects, proposed new projects, monthly inspection reports, service issues and long term projects. The committee then forwards these recommendations to the board for their approval. Two major projects that have been approved and started are the solar heating for the pool (funded by a grant from the gas company), and the repair and painting of the black wrought iron fencing in our community. Monthly inspections of our association is the foundation for the facilities committee's decisions and proposals. These are performed by a two person team from the committee that alternates each month. The area assigned to be inspected is different each month resulting in a complete inspection of all areas in Four Seasons. . The inspecting team for the current month reports their findings to the committee. Each item of concern is discussed and given a course of action. These are then added to the tracking log and reviewed at each meeting until it is no longer an issue. This process prevents small problems from becoming big problems. However, despite our diligent efforts to identify every maintenance issue, some issues can escape our notice. That is why you, the homeowner, are an important resource to the Facilities committee. We need your observations; an input to make a positive difference. Please share your concerns with us by completing an information form at the front desk in the Lodge. We appreciate your help in keeping The Four Seasons Hemet the exceptional community we are all so proud of!
