health & sports Clubs | sun lakes lIfestyles | May 2015 | 33 Congratulations to the Winter Tournament winners! The B League winners were Jack and Carol England, Bert Einum and Joan Silvestri. A League winners were Nick Caputo, Debbie Pritchett, Tammy Anderson and Bill Villasenor. AA honors went to a break-through team: Ken Flath, Jeanette Torrey (she does all the paperwork for our club), and Chuck and Linda Massey. Well done to all of you! All the captains of the MONDAY teams, playing this spring, should have received an e-mail clarifying, we hope, our approach to the two holidays that fall, one in the Spring Tournament and one in the Summer Tournament, both on Mondays! In the past, we have attempted to play through the two holidays; that, however, hasn't worked well, to say the least! MONDAY TEAMS ONLY: you will NOT play on May 25, although your schedule says you should! You will all receive a 'BYE' for that day, which ain't all bad — you all get a win when we're calculating the final winners! As most of you have realized, we have new 'boards' around the courts. They are "plastic wood," like our benches, and should last much longer than the rubber, which deteriorates under the sun and our low humidity. The ricochet is a little different, but you'll figure it out! HEADS-UP… the Summer Tournament begins the week of June 15, entries due by June 5. We play later in the day to, hopefully, avoid the heat of the day. Tentatively, we're planning on 5, 6, 7 and 8 pm, depending on how many teams we have playing. Our new court lights are great, so don't let the summer heat dictate whether or not your team plays! Meanwhile, we'll see you on the courts!! Friends of Bocce If you think there is no group in Sun Lakes that could offer you relief from your "humdrum life," think again! There is not a single player of Paddle Tennis or Pickleball that did not make a choice to choose these games for the many benefits they provide. Is the physical exercise a plus? ABSOLUTELY! Do we encourage and welcome new people to come and experience what we all love about the games? ABSOLUTELY! Do you need to have previous talent to enjoy these games? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Do you need any equipment? WE HAVE THAT COVERED! What we do need and would really like, is to have fellow Sun Lakers who would like to come and experience the fun and fellowship we all have come to appreciate. Both Pickleball and Paddle Tennis are played every day of the week. The current schedule of play is: Pickleball - Mon. - Sat. 8 am, Mon. 4 pm (new/novice level), Tues. & Thurs. 2 pm (new/novice level) & Tues. & Fri. 3 pm (mid-level & above); Paddle Tennis - Tues., Thurs., Fri., Sun. 8 am; Tues. & Thurs. 5 pm. For further information about the club, activates, etc., contact Wade at (951) 846-3209 and check the bulletin board next to the courts for membership rosters and events. Our annual membership dues are $10. Our April scheduled events for our Pickleball Tournament and Gala Party will be featured in the next publication. We look forward to seeing you at the courts!
