6 | sun lakes lIfestyles | May 2015 | CoMMunIty news We are now a little over half way through this process, having put transponders on over 3,500 cars. We sincerely appreciate all the help we have received from volunteers, and hope the residents are happy with the new system. Please bring your completed resident information form with you. If you have lost your form, we will have extra forms available. Management has developed a schedule for residents to be able to exchange their transponders for the new siri headlamp stickers. The exchange will be completed, by specified districts, at the Administration office parking lot, Monday to Friday from 8 am to 12 pm as indicated on the schedule below: **For residents who are working and not able to make this time-frame, please call the administration office to schedule an appointment. Also, if this time- frame does not work for you, please feel free to come by anytime when the transponder exchange is open. **UPDATE IN SCHEDULE*** WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE THE SCHEDULE UP FOR MULTIPLE DISTRICTS. PLEASE SEE THE REVISIONS BELOW: To keep all residents of a district from arriving on the same day, we would propose to have the following schedule: Week #1 in each month: Last name A-F Week #2 in each month: Last name G-L Week #3 in each month: Last name M-R Week #4 in each month: Last name S-Z Please keep in mind that both the new and old vehicle access devices (transponders) will work on the new system. Residents that are not scheduled until later in the year will have no problem accessing the community. The old transponders will be deactivated on Dec. 31, 2015, so please ensure that you have switched your old device before that time. If, at any time, you have problems with the new or old transponder, please contact the administration receptionist. VOLUNTEERS We still need volunteers to help with the transponder exchange for the month of May. If you have availability during the week from 8 am to 12 pm we would love to have your help! Call Charlye Sessner at 769-6648 to sign up. 2015 transponder exchange Every year for the past 23 years, EPAP, Sun Lakes Emergency Preparedness Organization has conducted a disaster drill. The drill simulates a potential and probably natural disaster and allows EPAP personnel to practice and sharpen their injury and life saving techniques. The drill continues to be a valuable learning experience for EPAPs medical, communications and animal rescue units, and all the other supporting units. The scenario for the May 29 drill is as follows: at 1:27 pm on Fri., May 29 the Pass Area has sustained a 7.2 magnitude earthquake on the Banning Fault approximately two and half miles northeast of the Sun Lakes Country Club. Traffic on Highland Springs Avenue is extremely congested, although the Railroad and Freeway over crossings appear to be intact. The day is warm and sunny, with a northeast breeze of approximately 10 MHP. There have been reports of injuries and property damage within Sun Lakes. Riverside County EOC is reporting a train derailment just east of Sun Lakes with three overturned rail cars that appear to be emitting a chlorine gas. Sundance, Central and Hoffer Elementary Schools, Susan B. Coombs Middle School and Second Street Marketplace Shopping Center are reporting structural damage and injuries. All local emergency services are committed to search and rescue operations at those locations. CHP has reported highway damage on the I-10 and 79 between Beaumont and Hemet. In Sun Lakes, electrical power and telephone services have been interrupted and traffic signals are inoperative. Sun Lakes EPAP has been activated and is beginning to receive requests from districts for assistance with their injuries and damage. This scenario is quite realistic and will again afford EPAP personnel the opportunity to practice and sharpen their skills when, not if, a disaster occurs.
