This year the Beaumont Kiwanis Club will host the 10th annual car and motorcycle show at Stewart Park on Sat., May 30 beginning at 10 am. The car show is one of several events that lead up to the annual Cherry Festival. Generally we have approximately 100 entries in the show. These vehicles are privately owned and the owners are proud to show off their cars, trucks and motorcycles. Thousands of dollars have been spent to restore and customize the vehicles. The owners of the vehicles pay a $25 entry fee to put their vehicle in the show. The day of the event, the entry fee is $30. The entries receive one lunch ticket for the event, a show T-shirt and two entry tickets to the Cherry Festival. The Cherry Fest Show starts at 10 am., but set up starts at 7 am. People bringing their vehicles to the show come early to get the best spaces, some people like the grass area under the trees and other do not want to park under the trees. Once they have set up their entries they will wander through the park to visit with friends that have brought their vehicles to show. All the entries have something in common, they love their cars, trucks and motorcycles and they want other people to see their vehicles. The Kiwanis Club requests donations from local businesses to use as prizes for the event. The Kiwanis Club sells raffle tickets during the show, then raffles off the donated prizes at the end of the event. During the show there is a DJ playing music and people walk around looking at all the beautiful entries. The day in the park is generally warm and is wonderful way to kick off the Cherry Festival fun and see some amazing vehicles. The entry fees the participants pay, the raffle tickets sold and the food sold at the show, is all used to fund the scholarships the Kiwanis Club gives to local graduating high school students as well as helping fund youth service projects. All profits from the monies received by the Kiwanis Club must be given back to the community in one way or another. The public is invited to come out to view these beautiful cars, trucks and motorcycles, entry is free for the public and viewing is between 10 am and 3 pm on Sat., May 30. Entry forms can be picked up at city hall, Chatigny Community Center, the Cherry Festival web site at wwww.BeaumontCherryFestival.org or ask any Kiwanis member or by calling Buzz Dopf at 909-208-0880.
