Your Board is now fully comprised of homeowner members. Thank you Don Ortega for stepping up as a candidate. Thanks are also in order to all who voted. For the October 2013 issue of our community magazine, the Hemet Herald, Director Russ Brown took pen in hand and wrote our message. His theme began with a quote from a fictional movie character (Captain Jack Sparrow): "The problem is not the problem; the problem is our attitude about the problem." Brown went on to say, "if you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem." "If we make good decisions, we will likely experience a positive outcome, and when we make poor decisions, the result is often unpleasant." His remarks were timely then, and are still timely now. A major problem for all of California is the drought. You should know that beginning in 2008 your community leaders made the decision to conserve water. A project began to convert a large portion of our common areas, irrigated by potable water, to be irrigated by reclaimed water. This water was turned on during mid 2010 and involved the landscaping along all of Four Seasons Boulevard and World Cup. During 2014 a project was begun whereby we installed a system to inject liquefied polymers into the soil in certain parts of our common areas. This has the effect of reducing excessive leaching of the soil. It is kind of like putting a sponge in the soil to absorb and hold the water. The areas involved (thus far) are the median strip approaching to the Lodge, the roundabout centerpiece, areas east of the Lodge parking lot, and several areas in the rear of the Lodge. Furthermore, the timers controlling our irrigation system around the Lodge have been turned back by 25 percent. Additionally, the fountain and water features around the Lodge employ recycling water systems, thus we are not continuously draining precious water resources. Another conservation step was recently completed with the installation of a solar energy system to heat our swimming pool and spa. As a result of our taking advantage of a rebate program made available through the gas company, this conversion was accomplished at literally no cost to our association. You should also know that a retro-fit of our entire Lodge interior lighting fixtures was accomplished. This will result in long term energy use reduction and cost savings. Please know that all of these conservation steps are by no means the end of our efforts, but rather only the end of the beginning. Please accept our sincere thanks for your support as we go about the business of trying to preserve, enhance and protect our community. This is why you elected us and this is why we serve. As you go about your business of life within and outside of the community, be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem. In so doing, consider this thought; kindness is the language that the blind can see and the deaf can hear, in all of your dealings, be kind. Sincerely, and on behalf of your Board, Tony, Greg, Ken, Russ, Jim and Gene, Hal Townend, President Hal Townend, President
