44 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2015 Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. Our days are getting long and temperatures are comfortable as we go into our new schedule of play times that started May 1. Since there are so many newcomers, we have added an additional hour of play so everyone gets a chance to play in the early evenings. Evening times are Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 6 to 9 pm. The morning schedules remain the same. As new Four Season's residents move in and discover the pleasant settings of the Lodge, some wander by the courts and are inspired by the sounds of fun that our players are making and all of the skill levels displayed on the courts. The next thing you know they are buying paddle tennis racquets and joining in on the fun. The game is good exercise and fast paced and an excellent way to meet the nicest people. If you don't believe it, just come sit and watch the group play. There is lots of laughter, jokes and some coaching going on by those that think they have mastered the game. However, there are some good pointers that do come in handy at times. The simplest of them, which some find hard to remember is "keep your eye on the ball." The rest comes with practice and muscle memory and it does not take too long to develop that. In the past few months we have gained around six or seven new players. Some came and joined the play, borrowing racquets until they felt it was a game they would like to join, then purchased their own racquets. There are no membership fees or dues, the only requirement is that you try to win every game (lol) and have fun. Historically those who decide to give it a try seldom leave the group. They may be gone for a short while to have a hip replacement or knee replacement but they always come back. So bring your Aleve and come play, the more the merrier. Hope to see you there And as Diana ends her article… good play, good times and good exercise. ~ Syed Ali Paddle Tennis New to the game and powerful players — Mo McGowan and Jan Pilkinton. Terry and Lilly Miller playing during our new evening play times. Looks like Lilly is giving her husband some pointers. Michael Rothberg looking good, showing off his Paddle Tennis shirt. Racquet Club April showers were welcomed for our flowers and plants, but they washed out our monthly Play Day. Play Day, May 30th, included a hosted pizza lunch celebrating the French Open at Roland Garros. Teaching professional Aba, Romy's daughter, joined play day demonstrating fun, creative drills and encouragement to improve our tennis skills. That extra practice will be helpful for the club members participating in our Mixed Doubles Ladder. Pre-determined matches will begin on the first Thursday of each month. Watch for an email from Irve explaining format. In addition to the intra-club competition, our club continues to explore opportunities to play with and against other senior communities, including Solera and Sun Lakes. In June, Sun Lakes will again hold its Charity Week events, including tennis on Mon., June 8 at 5 pm. It's a great opportunity to play challenging tennis with our neighbors and to help raise funds for local charities. And players can show off their FSBRC logo attire. We welcome our newest member Neil Edelbaum and look forward to him joining us on the courts. Please visit our website at www.fsbrc.org. ~ Steven Hovey
