40 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JUNE 2015 We are excited to bring "An Evening of Rustic Varietals" featuring varietals you don't see often, lesser known, but extremely flavorful and unique. One of the most popular rustic varietal is Nero d' Avola, a native varietal of Sicily. This varietal is hurriedly growing in popularity and fashion and will be one of our tastings at this month's Wine Club. Becoming familiar with some of these lesser known varietals is sure to impress even the greatest "wine snob." We are looking forward to seeing you at our June 18 Taste d' Vine Wine Club meeting at 6 pm in the Lodge Ballroom. Bring an appetizer such as bread or crackers and cheese, your own favorite bottle of wine if you wish, and a glass or two for tasting and sharing. Members $5, guests $10. ~ Gracy Luna Taste d'Vine Here at Four Seasons we are very lucky to have our own TOPS chapter. Taking off pounds sensibly is our main goal but we also have a lot of fun along the way. We have a great group of people, men and women, and we are here to give you support and knowledge to help you reach your weight loss goals. Currently, we have a motivational challenge, "Cruising to Success," with teams of three competing for four months in weight loss, attendance, tracking and exercise. There will be small prizes at the end as an incentive. We also reward the top two losers at the end of each month. TOPS is very affordable. There is a yearly membership fee of $32 and chapter dues of just $3 per month. If you would like to come and see what we are all about, we meet on Tuesdays in the Ballroom with weigh-in from 8 to 8:30 am and the meeting from 8:30 to 9:30 am. For more information you can contact our Chapter Leader, Cathy Calhoun at (951) 845-2614 or Rosalee Strong, TOPS Area Captain at (951) 845-9313. ~ Cheryl Burke TOPS Amateur Radio Club When an earthquake strikes the power goes off rendering all electronic devices useless. You leave your house and you notice green suited volunteers in CERT gear walking through your neighborhood. They discover one of your neighbors with a head injury from falling debris. The team utilizes FRS radios to summon aid from the First Aid team at the lodge. The First Aid team arrives and finds that the person's speech is slow and unintelligible. They call the Communications team who call San Gorgonio Hospital. The team uses a ham radio to communicate with members of the SPARC Radio Club and the Beaumont EOC. A concise message form is filled out for the IC at the Lodge. Local club members are operating the radios at SG hospital and the Beaumont EOC. The operator arranges for emergency transport to bring the injured person to the hospital. The Ham radios are being powered by an emergency power supply. This would utilize the hospital's back up generator on their end and battery power on the Four Seasons side. The hospital generator comes on at the flip of a switch but the Four Seasons radios utilize some form of battery power. They would use either Double A batteries for their HT's or a gel battery for their more powerful mobile radios. Radio Operators practice weekly on FRS and 2 Meter radio nets on Wednesday nights. A net control operator calls the roll from a list of members and all club members who are available answer back. These nets are used as general practice to keep the radios adjusted properly and loud enough and on the proper channel for everyone to hear them. The city of Banning held their annual Disaster Preparedness Expo Saturday April 25. People learned about emergency supplies, the local CERT – Community Emergency Response Team, First Aid and Emergency Radio from the San Gorgonio Pass Amateur Radio Club aka. SPARC. Interested parties could buy emergency supplies, first aid kits, sign up for CERT classes and learn about amateur radio. CERT TRAINING Beaumont Civic Center 550 E. 6th Street.
