SOCIAL CLUBS & GROUPS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2015 | 19 The Mystery Theater scored a bull's-eye with its production of Peril in The Paddock, or A Horse Of A Different Mother. This delightful melodrama was a hysterical reminder of the old slapstick, silent screen melodramas of bygone days. The director, Joe Vallely, mimicked the old style cartoons, much like the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, in his interpretation of the characters. Audience participation made this play come alive with the brilliant use of Sign Girls, the stunning Fran Kramaski and Karen Parmer, who strolled across the stage with their signs of "Boo," "Cheer," and "The Plot Thickens." The curtains closed with our Sign Girls strutting across the stage to roaring applause, holding signs with "The End Really" and "Thank God!" The cast was a spirited blend of new and veteran players featuring Joe Vallely, who was the unscrupulous Villain, Nasty Ned Nantura; Bob Bray, who made his Mystery Theater debut as the inept Hero, Lance Charger; and his real-life wife, Ruth Bray, as the perky Patricia Woodburn, also making her debut. Hats off to Martie Steggell, who provided us with rip-roaring laughs in her portrayal of Martha Tendercare, where she brought the character to life as a tough and feisty, no- nonsense western gal. Ginger Burris gave the audience paroxysms of laughter with her portrayal of Suzie Tendercare, and D. Williams was a hoot as the wrangler Rusty Hinge. Marilyn Kellison gave a resounding performance as Cynna Stunnington, the ditzy but devious side kick of our villain and it wouldn't be complete without Thunderbolt the horse, as played by Susan Fitzpatrick. Between the scenes, the audience was entertained with musical interludes by Sun Lakes Boot Scootin' Babes, and the Satin Dolls. We thank the Sun Lakes community for its continued support of their productions, and hope you enjoyed the show. Guess what? You could be in the Mystery Theater's fall production, but there's one catch, you have to come and join us. See you at our next meeting on Tues., June, 2 at 1 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Mystery Theater & More The Sun Lakes Drama Club's Readers Theatre is quite busy finding a play for its November presentation. Notorious, a Lux Radio Theatre production from the late 40s, was a smashing success at the South Clubhouse. Pat Naylor as director did a terrific job and wowed the audience with great performances from her case of veteran actors. The production for November should be no less exciting. Auditions for The Odd Couple (female version), the fall production selected by the Drama Club, will be initiated by read-throughs only on June 22 and 23 from 9 am to 12 noon for anyone interested in finding out about the play and to determine whether he or she would like to audition for the play. The actual auditions will be held on July 16 from 1 to 4 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Michael Owen has agreed to be the director for this classic Neil Simon comedy. The monthly dinner for May was held at Billy Reed's Restaurant in Palm Springs and as usual Caroline Molzan, our monthly dinner chairperson, used her organizing skills to bring in many members who had a ball enjoying the wonderful food and the snazzy ambience of the venue. If anyone would like to join in on the fun of play production in any capacity just join the club at one of our meetings held the first Thursday of each month in the Main Clubhhouse Ballroom at 1pm. You will be more than welcomed. You can also call Rose Hermanson at 769-9810. Drama Club
