HEALTH & SPORTS CLUBS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2015 | 33 As you read this, the Spring Tournament is in it's final week. Play offs for this Tournament begin on Mon., June 1, to settle any ties in the divisions. The semi-finals and finals will be on Tues., June 2. Come out to cheer your friends on! There is still time to sign up for the Summer Tournament: final sign-up day is 5 pm on June 5. As most of you know, entries go to 1288 Pleasant Valley. Jeanette has a box at her door. Please do not use the postal mailbox. Play for the Summer Tournament begins the week of June 15. Don't let the temperature decide your team's entry. We usually begin play at 5 pm, depending on the number of teams signed up. It is very difficult to anticipate how many teams will participate in any of the four tournaments, thus times are fluid. We shift times with the weather. The board works with what we have; being at least a little bit flexible, in your choice of days, is a great help to the scheduling. Jeanette does all the paperwork for the Bocce Club. If you're lucky enough to catch Jeanette on the courts, give her a hug or a hand. She deserves it. You need a player for your team or you're a newbie and would like to join a team, call Dutch, 845-0392. She will do her best to help you out. The club has grown to the point that attaching names to faces has become difficult, to say the least. If someone walks up to you, points to you and says, "And you are?"… please think nothing of it; it's just our effort to get a handle on our burgeoning membership! See you all on the courts! Friends of Bocce Paddlers and picklers know how to party! The first major social event this year was our April Men's Pickleball Tournament, held on April 6 and 9, followed by the Award's Party held on April 25 at the North Clubhouse. Forty-three members and guests were treated to a delicious BBQ rib dinner, prepared by club member, Dan Cosner. Nancy Watterson graciously offered her much-requested baked beans, with the club providing side dishes of potato salad and fruit. A spectacular custom cake was supplied by Bob Golchert (Bob the Baker), as well as member contributed desserts. A small fee of $5 for members and $8 for guests helped offset the cost for the evening's expenses and there was absolutely no charge for providing the much needed deluge of rain that plagued the entire evening. The party committee selected the theme "Champions/Everyone's A Star" and Chairperson Debbie Pritchett's creativity in decorations, along with helpers Heidi Kliewer and Nick Caputo, generated the perfect atmosphere to bring it to life. Club President, Wade Sampson, presided as gift cards were awarded to Men's Tournament winners Hank Huisman, Tournament Champ and Nick Arico, Runner Up. Wade also acknowledged special thanks to Les Ebner for all his time and effort in organizing and scheduling the tournament matches. Les worked tirelessly through this whole process while disseminating email results to all our members as matches were concluded. Everyone was sorry that an injury sidelined Les from play but really grateful for his contribution. Both Pickleball and Paddle Tennis are played every day of the week. The current schedule of play is: Pickleball, Mon. - Sat. 8 am., also Mon. at 4 pm (new/novice level), Tues. and Thurs. at 2 pm (new/novice level) and Tues. & Fri. 3 pm (mid-level & above); Paddle Tennis, Tues., Thurs., Fri., Sun. 8 am and Tues. & Thurs. 6 pm. For further information about the club or activities, etc., contact Wade at 846- 3209. Annual dues are $10 (we encourage new players to join soon to participate in our upcoming events) and equipment is available for loan to all new players. Check out the Bulletin Board next to the courts for the Member's Roster, up-coming events, etc. Interested players are welcome to stop by the courts to learn more about the games and meet some new friends!
