COMMUNITY NEWS | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2015 | 3 By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK "In the Good Old Summer Time" is a song that brings back memories of picnics, swimming holes, fishing, baseball games, sleeping under the stars, drive-in movies, and all sorts of wonderful things we enjoyed in our youth. Today it means grandchildren come for extended visits and sharing our wonderful community with them. To insure these visits are truly enjoyable for you and your guests, it is important to know and follow the rules. For example, did you know that no guest, child or adult, may use a facility without the presence of an accompanying resident? This means no matter what the guest's age is, if they want to play golf, go to the pool, or use any other of our facilities you must go with them, or arrange for another resident to accompany them. In addition, there are facilities that no guest is allowed to use. These are the exercise rooms at all the clubhouses and the inside pool at the South Clubhouse. It is important to know that children under 16 are not allowed to drive golf carts in the community. Also, skate boards and roller blades are not to be ridden in Sun Lakes. One common misunderstanding every year is the hours which children under 16 are allowed in the Main Clubhouse and North Clubhouse pools. With the exception of specific holidays the general rule is that children are allowed in these pools from 10 am until 2 pm. At 2 pm all children under the age of 16 must not only leave the pool, they must exit the pool area. Please understand that we are not trying to stifle anyone's enjoyment. We want everyone to have a great time here. The key word is "everyone." We want everyone to treat everyone else with respect and courtesy. Whether you agree with a certain rule, or not, we ask that you respect its intent and the rights of other residents. Let's all get along. Let's turn the "good old summer time" to the happiest summer of fun and enjoyment since our youth. I need to admit a mammoth error made regarding the turf reduction program I talked about last month. In my article I said that we are looking to convert 55 acres of turf on the Championship Course. That is true. However, I said that 55 acres represented 244,400 sq.ft. That was wrong it really represents 2,217,600 sq.ft. You would think after almost 40 years in the grading and paving business I would have caught this. I must have had a Sun Lakes moment. As of today the City has not announced its plan to comply with the state mandated water cuts. It is rumored that initially they will be asking residents with even numbered addresses to irrigate on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays and those with odd numbered addresses to irrigate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. As I told you before, the Board is not waiting for the city to act. As we have for the past several years, we are taking a proactive approach to saving water, and will soon be bringing our proposed program for common areas and the golf courses to the residents for their review and comment.
