40 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2015 | FRIENDS WE WILL MISS Margaret Mavis Finley (Lincoln) passed away at home in Long Beach, CA on April 10, 2015. She was born on December 2, 1927 in Jackson, Michigan. She was a descendant of a Jackson County, Michigan pioneer family. Her great, great, great grandfather, Chester Wall, was the first non-native settler in Sandstone Township, Jackson County. Mrs. Finley was a member of St. Bartholomew Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a life member of the National Education Association and California Teachers Association. She was also a member of the California Retired Teachers Association. Margaret attended Jackson public schools from kindergarten through community college and was a graduate of Eastern Michigan University. She married Duane Finley on August 23, 1952. They had one daughter, Linda. Margaret taught school in Michigan for seven years. She moved to Ontario, California with her husband and daughter in 1967 and taught school in Pomona for 21 years. After retiring she moved to Sun Lakes, in Banning, California. In 2008 and after the death of her husband, Mrs. Finley moved to Long Beach, California to be with her daughter. She was a free-lance writer and was listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Women, and Who's Who in the world. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Duane, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Linda; son-in-law, Daniel Ramos; five nephews, three nieces, two great nephews, and five great nieces. Evelyn "Evie" Mott departed this world to live with the angels on April 20, 2015 at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital. Her passing was very peaceful as she quietly stopped breathing with her husband of 64 years at her side holding her hand for the last time. Jack, her two sons John and Will and her daughter Susan Gordon will miss her forever as will her seven grandchildren and many friends. Rest well our love. You are now and forever in a better place. A celebration of Evie's life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11:30 am in the Sun Lakes Ballroom. Please call 845-8045 if you will be joining us for lunch at our celebration. Eleanor G. Sanchez passed away on April 27, 2015 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Baldwin N.Y. on July 27, 1930 and moved to her beloved California in the mid 1950s. After working in the shipping industry for many years she began a new profession with the El Monte School District before retiring and moving to Sun Lakes in 2002. Because of her love of history, especially the Civil War and World War II, she became a docent for many years at the Palm Springs World War II Air Museum. Eleanor proclaimed to be a "proud" democrat and was an active member of the Pass Democratic Club. She was admired for her loyalty, honesty and perseverance. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Margaret Spalenka, "Mingo" as she was known to many, passed peacefully at 86 on March 23, 2015. She had recently moved to Arizona to be closer to one of her daughters. Mingo had a zest for life. She and her husband George, also deceased, loved living in the Sun Lakes community. After George's death in March of 2001, Mingo joined the Friendship club and several other groups to keep busy. She had wonderful neighbors, Roz and Burt, Mary and Dick and Char and Don just to name a few, who watched over her. She was very active in her church, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, in Beaumont. Mingo grew up in Huntington Park and attended Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Montebello. She remained close to the sisters and her friends from school. She and her husband George raised their five children in Arcadia, Ca. After George retired from the LA County Fire Department they moved to Maui were they lived for 10 fabulous years. When they returned they settled here in Banning at Sun Lakes. She loved to ride her beach cruiser around the community, and walk her dogs, Buddy and Molly, as well as hand out water and cookies to the golfers as she sat on her patio. Thank you to all of her friends of Sun Lakes, for making her last years so happy and blessed. Valeria Jane Webster was born in Mishawaka, IN. and passed away March 8, 2015 at the age of 94 at the Cherry Valley Healthcare facility after a month of heart related problems. Val, as she was known by friends, is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Gettman and Cheryl Parr and her son-in-law Al Gettman. Val moved to Sun Lakes in March of 1990 and was joined by her daughter and son-in-law, Gene and Cheryl Parr. Dawn & Al Gettman followed in 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Webster in 1972, and her son-in- law, Gene in 2010. Val was very active in several organizations, an avid reader, and very artistic. Her greatest love was her family and family values. We miss you terribly Mom!
