walk Walking is the new black. It's easy, beneficial and free. There's really no good reason NOT to incorporate a walking regimen into your daily schedule. Here are some reasons you should take an hour, or even 30 minutes, each day to take a walk: 1. Walking is an aerobic exercise that boosts endorphins, relieves stress and makes you happier. 2. It will help you lose weight, especially combined with a good diet. Even if you can't completely stay away from those yummy carbs, walking for 45 minutes each day will help you shed some extra pounds. 3. It is healthy for your whole body. Walking has been shown to lower blood pressure, prevent heart disease and lower cholesterol. 4. You'll live longer. Walking will delay age-related diseases like osteoarthritis and dementia and can lower the risk of developing diabetes, colon and breast cancers. Studies have shown that walking just 30 minutes a day can extend your life by 1.4 years. 5. It will tone your muscles. If you stick with it, you can walk your way to a flatter tummy, firmer butt and toned legs. Just don't be startled when people start whistling at you. 6. It can improve relationships. Walk with your sweetie and enjoy the fresh air and catch up on your lives. You can even hold hands if you really want to. 7. Walking will give you energy. By increasing your oxygen intake and boosting your circulation, you will feel more alert and energized. 8. You'll sleep better at night. If you take a walk during the day, your body will absorb some natural vitamin D from the sun, helping it regulate your natural sleep cycle allowing you to fall asleep more quickly and sleep deeper at night. 9. It's so easy. You've been doing it practically all your life and you're pretty good at it. All you really need are shoes. 10. Walking burns more fat than running. 'Nuf said.
