These are questions you may be asking yourself. There are several good reasons you should become a community volunteer. The number one reason should be that you truly want to improve your community. After that the reasons can vary from wanting to volunteer with a specific group or club in your community to helping create a positive impression for your company. When deciding where to donate your valuable hours do your homework. Find out what you are passionate about and then do something you find fulfilling. If it's animals then volunteer at the local shelter or rescue, if it's helping children in need then seek an organization dedicated to doing that. Perhaps mentoring college students who would value your experience in business would be a match. Choose two or three organizations you find interesting. Attend a meeting and maybe work on a small project, then decide on the organization that fits you best. Whatever you decide make sure it's something you are passionate about. Finding the right volunteer match can make the difference between dropping out or finding fulfillment. Volunteering also creates indirect marketing. Marketing that comes naturally is the best kind of marketing. While at an event with your co- volunteers it's natural to talk about where you work and what you do to. These folks will remember you. Whether it's to fill their own need or to help out someone else, it means more customers. Let your customers know you're giving back. Community involvement is good for your reputation and is an often overlooked marketing opportunity. Customers like to do business with people and businesses that help enrich their community. Community involvement strengthens your reputation over the long run. Also, make sure to motivate your co- workers and employees to become as passionate as you. But most of all, volunteering can make you a better, well-rounded person and business. Personal growth not only makes you better, but can result in the success of your business. Giving back doesn't take a tremendous amount of time or energy, but it can be one of the best things you do to strengthen your foundation and that of your businesses. 20 OUR YUCAIPA | JUNE 2015 Message from the Chairman Grow Your Business by Giving By Nancy Kenny
