With that said, there are a few ways to avoid heat stress. First, make sure you take in plenty of fluids (water) to keep your body hydrated. For every 15 minutes of exercise make sure to drink eight ounces. Avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day (1– 5 pm). Along with this, wear loose, light-colored and lightweight clothing. Finally, listen to your body! The first stages of heat stress are muscle cramps, nausea, headaches, goose bumps, unsteady footing and or a decrease or a stoppage of sweat rate. Stop exercising if you experience any of these symptoms. Following these steps will aid in continuing your health all year long.
