CommunIty news | sun lakes lIfestyles | July 2015 | 3 By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK Wow, where did June go? I guess it was such a busy month that I lost track of time. I want to take a good portion of this article to thank all of the people who made Charity Week one of the most successful in our history. Together the residents of our community showed once more just how giving you really are and how much you care about helping those in need. Although there were close to one hundred volunteers involved with the various events this year I want to give special recognition to those brave souls who took on the responsibility of putting the events together. They did a spectacular job. Starting with the Pitch 'n Putt Tournament, Marilyn Knowles; Tennis Event, Michelle Walter; Bocce Ball, Jim Curry & John Jones; Pancake Breakfast, Sharon Mills; Helicopter Ball-Drop, Joann & Bill Nevins; Fashion Show, Pat Pinz & Ellie Fawcett; Monster Scramble, Don Laundreaux & Karen Daniels; Gala, Linda Spaulding; Pro-Am Shoot Out, Woody Catalano; Holdem Tournament, Larry Knowles & John Dunaway; Pro-Am Tournament, Bob Palmer. In addition there were the people behind the scenes who worked tirelessly to sell ads, secure sponsors, sell tickets and tee signs. These people's efforts are not seen by the public, but are extremely important to the Charity's ability to make the outstanding contributions to local charities every year. They are, in no particular order, David Kealy, Dennis Pleiman, Helen & Jerry Searcy, Beverly Simmons, Maureen Condon, Gaylord Spense, Ken Mills, and Gladys Burks. In addition, who did not see the wonderful 25th Anniversary Cake in the lobby of the Main Clubhouse and the lit up large 25 on the stage of the Ballroom. You can thank Bob the Baker, Sue Miller, and Jim Miller for those two terrific decorations. Finally, I want to give a big "Great Job" to the Chairperson, Sandy Moyer. Chairing the week for the past two years she has dedicated herself to seeing it grow and prosper. Under her direction, and the hard work of the people previously mentioned, three new events have been added and community participation has increased. Congratulations Sandy on doing a terrific job. In closing this month I want to give you a little insight on what outsiders think of Sun Lakes. Over the past month I have met with the Boards of two other communities wanting to do some of the improvements we have already done, such as remodeling their club houses. They came here to look at our facilities, and find out what our process was in accomplishing these things. In talking with the other Boards it is quite clear that we are well respected and considered a model worthy of following. At each of these meetings they have been in awe of what we have accomplished while maintaining high levels of service, very good reserve levels, and low assessments. I tell you this because it just reiterates what I have said for some time, "Sun Lakes is a special place." This is not by accident. It is special because we have good leadership in the form of a dedicated Board. It is special because we have excellent staff, starting with our General Manger and going down through every level of employee. It is particularly special because of the people who live here. We may not always agree, but when it comes right down to it we are like family, a true community of people caring for each other.
