OUR YUCAIPA | JULY 2015 21 Sorenson held a ground breaking ceremony on June 12 to celebrate and promote their expansion and beautification projects along with highlighting the cooperative relationship between the City of Yucaipa and the US Dept. of Economic Development. Government dignitaries including Senator Mike Morrell, Assemblyman Chad Mayes, Supervisor James Ramos and Jan Leja representing Congressman Paul Cook and the Yucaipa city council. All grabbed shovels to help get the project started. Ribbon Cuttings The brand new facility offers a stimulating learning environment. Montessori Kidsland owners Lalia and Naresh Bakshi cut the ribbon. Ichiban Japanese Restaurant and Sushi opened their doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 21. Located in the heart of Uptown Yucaipa at 12116 California Street. Ichiban serves a variety of Japanese specialties including rolls, sashimi and Bento Box's, you may reach them at 797-7689. Scholarship Winners Each year, since 2008, the Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce presents John B. Sharp scholarships to qualified students who are pursuing a degree in Business. This year we were able to proudly present three $1,000 scholarships. Mariana Hernandez-Garcia from Crafton Hills College and graduating Seniors from Yucaipa High School, Jacob Madden and Heba Mahfouz were our 2015 recipients. Throughout the year the chamber hosts events that benefit the scholarship for students attending local schools and pursuing a career in business. 2015 YHS graduate Heba Mahfouz 2015 YHS graduate Jacob Madden SOREnSOn EnGInEERInG MOnTESSORI KIdSland IChIban Crafton Hills student Mariana Hernandez-Garcia with Chamber Board Members accepting her scholarship Montessori Kidsland Academy celebrated the grand opening of their state of the art facility on June 6 with dignitaries from all levels of government, city representatives from the city of Yucaipa and Redlands as well as chamber of commerce representatives. Montessori Kidsland Academy is currently accepting applications for children from infant to Pre-K. It is located at 31587 Alta Vista Dr. in Redlands just off Outer Highway 10, (909) 794-8530.
