38 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2015 It's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of your favorite wine…it's summertime! A favorite thing to do in summertime is to get together with friends, cook some food, and drink some wine… all outdoors of course… but, with the weather heating up, choosing the right wine can be tricky! Taste d'Vine Wine Club is excited to present "Barbecue Wines" suited to warmer weather and outdoor cooking at our July meeting, on the third Thursday, July 16 at 6 pm in the Ballroom. Bring an appetizer such as bread or crackers and cheese, your own favorite bottle of wine if you wish, and a glass or two for tasting and sharing. Members $5, guests $10. ~ Gracy Luna Taste d'Vine Here at Four Seasons we are very lucky to have our own TOPS chapter. Taking off pounds sensibly is our main goal but we also have a lot of fun along the way. We have a great group of people, men and women, and we are here to give you support and knowledge to help you reach your weight loss goals. Currently, we have a motivational challenge, "Cruising to Success," with teams of three competing for four months in weight loss, attendance, tracking and exercise. There will be small prizes at the end as an incentive. We also reward the top two losers at the end of each month. TOPS is very affordable. There is a yearly membership fee of $32 and chapter dues of just $3 per month. If you would like to come and see what we are all about, we meet on Tuesdays in the Ballroom with weigh-in from 8 to 8:30 am and the meeting from 8:30 to 9:30 am. For more information you can contact our Chapter Leader, Cathy Calhoun at (951) 845-2614 or Rosalee Strong, TOPS Area Captain at (951) 845-9313. ~ Cheryl Burke TOPS Amateur Radio Club It is that time of year when amateur radio operators test their emergency preparedness communication skills using their radios while off the grid. Called "Field Day," it is always on the last full weekend in June. Members of our club and SPARC (San Gorgonio Pass Amateur Radio Club) participated, along with approximately 100,000 other amateur radio ops throughout the United States. During Field Day, amateur radio clubs set up and test their equipment without access to the electrical grid. Generators, batteries and solar chargers are in full use. Radio contacts are made throughout the US just to exchange club names and a cryptic description of the radio sets they are using. This year's event took place at the Los Rios Rancho in Oak Glen. Being at a higher altitude, one of our interests is to see if using our radios at a higher altitude helps make longer range contacts. We also had members of the Yucaipa club participating. Within our community, we utilize FRS (Family Radio Service) radios. The first and foremost is for emergency reasons: earthquakes, floods, fires, any emergency in your home and you are alone or away from your home. We have FRS training sessions in order to maintain our skills. Consider being a member of our group. Field Day is one of the many events available to all licensed radio folk for enjoyment. We can always use more volunteers; it is an opportunity to have fun while you're learning something new. Our website is W6FSB.com; meetings are held in the Lodge Ballroom on the last Friday of the month at 10 am. ~ Dick Van Bree, W6RVB President
