42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2015 Racquet Club Our mild spring weather has allowed the Racquet Club to have a busy and enjoyable couple of months. The May Play Day was extra special because Romy's daughter Aba, a teaching professional, shared her expertise and talent with all participants. She was able to lead drills and direct practice on both courts at the same time. Now we why come Romy is such a good player; he learned it from his daughter. We all hope that she will come back and give the rest of us the benefit of her teaching skills. After many fits and starts the opportunity to compete in a Mixed Doubles Ladder once again got underway, sort of. In the first challenge match Barb Miller and Richard Carrasco defeated Larry and Bernadette Martin, so at least two rungs of our ladder have been determined, though at this point, it is more of a step stool. In addition to the intra-club competition, our club had opportunities to play with and against other senior communities, including Solera and Sun Lakes. In June, Sun Lakes held its annual Charity Week events, including tennis. It was a great opportunity to play challenging tennis with our neighbors and to help raise funds for local charities. And our players showed off their FSBRC logo attire. Earlier, FSBRC hosted players from Solera, another lock-up facility for seniors. With a combined 20 players competing on the courts and cheering for both sides when on the bench, it was a great way to inaugurate inter-club play with Solera. Accolades for this event included, "A big bear hug for all the special people that did all the work! Thank you mucho!!!" The bilingual touch with the multiple exclamation points was high praise from Padoo Peralta, who was joined by Julie Stayner, Larry Martin, Tina Soeten, and others in their appreciation for the event and efforts by the Club Committee. Looking forward, the Club will have more big activities in July, starting with the now-traditional Red/Blue team competition on Independence Day. A huge trophy will be engraved with the names of the winning team and displayed in the Lodge in perpetuity for all to admire. July 25 will be another Play Day open to all tennis playing residents. Maybe Aba will be there. Thursday evenings will continue to have doubles play, whether for the ladder competition or for social mixed doubles.
