As usual, our bi-monthly potluck was another hit. We had
amazing food, lots of laughter, and friendships have flourished.
We carry our camaraderie from the billiards room to the
lunchroom, and vice versa!
In May we held our quarterly in-house tournament. We drew
peas for partnerships, and rather than being a noisy group, the
concentration level was almost palpable! No one complained
about stress or tension, though, since we all take the name of
our group literally: FUN. Our winning team was Gene Dwyer
and Dennis Boozer.
In June everyone was focused on the upcoming association-
wide July 4 competition. Since July 4 falls on a Saturday this
year, many residents who are not usual members of the Billiards
for Fun group asked what they had to do to qualify for the July 4
Billiards for Fun tournament. Our agreed-upon rule is that each
participant must have played a requisite of three Tuesdays in
the two months prior to July 4. All participants will be required
to place themselves in one of Groups A, B or C (the A group
being the "hot shots," etc.) It will be a singles tournament with
double elimination, and first and second place trophies for each
of the three groups. Everyone is excited about the tournament
this year. On July 4, if you happen to be wandering around, drop
by the Billiards Room and watch us play. It should be really
exciting!
We are growing almost monthly. If you would like to be
part of that growth, come join us! Our formal play times are
Tuesdays, session one from 11 am to 1 pm and session two from
1 to 3 pm. A practice session is held on Saturdays from 10:30
am to 12:30 pm. Just as a reminder, if you want to learn to play
billiards, one of our members offers free instruction. Come over
to the Billiards Room on either of these days to find out more
and let us answer any questions you may have. It's a fun group.
