I also have the winter excuse "it's cold out so it's reading time." I know most of you are like I am. We carry books everywhere. Waiting in a doctor's office isn't stressful when you're finally on the verge of finding out who did it. This is the time to visit your library often. Keep checking for that book you are waiting for. We are receiving so many wonderful books lately. And, many older paperback books. We cannot display them but we certainly can carry them to the Hemet Library. We accept and display paperbacks from 2010 to 2015. We may need to change to 2011 and up. Recently we were given many non-fiction books. We have plenty of room in that section and we thank you for expanding that area. Keep them coming! Four Seasons residents take our library very serious. I might suggest you check our library before buying that sequel. We have been receiving so many great newer fiction books. All prolific authors are displayed from 2003 and up. We have had many times that the shelves are so full that we cull all books under 2003. If you are bringing books that represent a series we just cannot keep them together. I recently donated my series of Janet Evanivich's books beginning with One for The money. The book was at least 19 years old. Just don't have the room. The magazines are no longer scarce. We have a huge variety and plenty at any given time. We are able to display three months. May, June and July are current but we also take the older ones downtown. They give them out free of charge. Free is always exciting! I do hope you were able to enjoy Kathye Caines, director of the Hemet Library as the Sunshine speaker in June. The library offers so many programs and we are proud to support them with books that can be sold to keep them going. Don't forget the audio tapes and CDs for your car and RV trips! Most of our grandchildren have grown out of the children's movies but the selection of CDs that can be checked out from the front desk would make a great popcorn night when they are visiting. Committee member Kay reports: It was 25 years (and 30 books) after his first bestselling novel A Time to Kill was written that author John Grisham released the sequel where he brought back several of the characters from the first story. This book, Sycamore Row (Doubleday, 2013) remained on the NY Times Bestseller List for several months last year. The story is set in Clanton (think Klan Town), Mississippi in 1988. A wealthy white timber man is dying of cancer and methodically arranges his suicide where he hangs himself from a sycamore tree. He prepares a hand written will leaving 90 percent of his $20+ million estate to his black housekeeper. The story focuses on the legal wrangling as his adult children, the housekeeper, attorney Jake Brigance (the hero in the first book) and the courts work to find the answers of why he did this. The themes of race and money make for a gripping story by this compelling author who is a master of courtroom drama. Thanks Kay!
