reCreatIon dePartment | sun lakes lIfestyles | auGust 2015 |11 Upcoming EvEnts Doors TribuTe: sTrange Days Sat., Sept. 26, Main Clubhouse Ballroom doors open at 6 pm, show is at 7 pm. $10pp. A Los Angeles favorite, Strange Days is one of the most celebrated tribute acts in North America. This incredible band captures the magic, mystery and madness of The Doors in their prime with songs like "Riders on the Storm" and Light My Fire." As the founding members of Strange Days, guitarist Robert Carsten and keyboardist Michael Jacobson have worked with some of the most well-known Doors tribute bands around. By combining vintage instruments with the latest technology, Strange Days offers both an authentic on-stage look and unmistakable sound. This will be a memorable show that you definitely don't want to miss out on. From their sound to their wardrobe you would think it was the original Doors reincarnated up on the stage. This show will be theater seating, first come first served. Recreation Director Message With the hot summer months almost gone, make sure you get out of your house and down to the Main Clubhouse to take part in the fantastic events that are taking place. It kicks off with our outdoor movie on the 29th of this month and continues with great concerts, comedy night and the annual Halloween Doggie Parade. Make sure you don't miss out on this year's Halloween Party as well as the fabulous Veterans Walk. The Recreation Department pride's its self on bringing great entertainment and activities to the residents of Sun Lakes. If there is something you would like to see here, make sure you stop by and pick up an entertainment request form from the front desk. ~ Jason Ewals For more information please contact the Recreation desk at 845-2191 ocTober garage sales Start cleaning out those garages for our fall garage sales. Sales are 8 am – 4 pm. Residents are asked to have any remaining items that did not sell back into their homes after the garage sale. Dates and district participation is as follows: Oct. 3: Districts 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13; Oct. 10: Districts14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23; Oct. 17: Districts 2, 3, 5, 7, 16, 17. Halloween Doggie ParaDe Sat., Oct. 24, 10 am on the Driving Range, $4 per entry. The Recreation Department will be hosting the Fifth Annual Halloween Doggie Costume Parade. The parade will take place at the Main Clubhouse Veranda and Driving Range. This event is $4 per dog (checks only) to register with a limit of 50 registered dogs. There will be prizes given out to the costume winners. Prizes include first, second and third place in addition to Most Creative, Most Glamorous and Most Scary. All dogs that participate will receive a treat for participation. Light beverages will also be provided for everyone. Registration will start on Sept. 1. Please sign up with the Recreation Department at the Main Clubhouse. comeDy nigHT Fri., Sept. 18, Main Clubhouse Ballroom, doors open at 6 pm, show at 7 pm, $7 pp. Enjoy an evening of laughs with Corporate Comedy Entertainment, featuring three great comedians from the Los Angeles area. They are guaranteed to make you laugh until you drop! This event will be table seating. There will be cocktail service in the Ballroom and an appetizer menu from which you can purchase from. Lottery dates are Aug. 10 – 16. You can pick up your registration forms at the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk. Checks only, limit 4 people per check, 8-10 people per table. Table assignments will be posted in the Recreation Office Hallway by Aug. 20. Halloween ParTy Sat., Oct. 31, Main Clubhouse Ballroom, 6:30 pm, $15 pp. The Recreation Department will be hosting a Halloween Party on Sat., Oct. 31 in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Please join us for a fun and casual night (costumes optional). Each table will have light appetizers (chips, onion rings, veggies and chicken strips) to share while they dance the night away with "Generations." Cocktail servers will be available for you to purchase drinks. There will also be games to play for prizes, a photo booth, and you'll get a chance to win any one of 10 door prizes. Doors will open at 5:30 pm, this event will have tabled seating and tickets are $15 pp. Registration will be done through a lottery. Lottery dates for sign up are Sept. 21-27. Forms can be picked up at the Main Clubhouse Reception Desk. Please have checks for all members of your party at the time of sign up. There is a limit of four people per check and 8-10 people per table.
