At our last meeting, we celebrated the red, white and blue with 21 kinds of red, white and blue salads and desserts prepared by our members. They were delicious. August will bring another interesting event, "A Nutty Subject." Members will have an opportunity to display their culinary skills by making food involving nuts. It can be anything from peanut butter cookies to Thai peanut sauce. Come join us for a unique experience. Save the date of Sept. 25. For those interested, we will be journeying to Beaumont High School for lunch. This special event will have lunch made and served by the Beaumont culinary students. Happy Cookers Chorale With a tear in his eye and a lump in his throat, Bob Jensen, illustrious musical director of the Sun Lakes Chorale for almost 20 years, turned in his director's baton at a luncheon in his honor in June. Bob was surrounded by more than 100 past and present members of the Chorale. It was a bittersweet, poignant, and emotional afternoon, with most participants lingering long after lunch was over. Be sure to mark your calendars now for the next summer event sponsored by the Chorale, the Barbershop Music Concert, scheduled for 3 pm on Sun., Aug. 23. You'll enjoy the program's format, which will showcase the growth in popularity of Barbershop singing throughout history. Each decade of the 20th century will be highlighted, with the unique style that set it apart. "American Pastime" a 2014 champion quartet from the Inland Empire Harmony Carousel, a barbershop chorus from Ontario, CA, will be featured at the concert, which is designed to bring you a musical afternoon that will more than satisfy and inspire. Tickets for this Sunday matinee performance are $8 pp, and will be sold in the Main Clubhouse lobby weekdays from Mon., Aug. 10 through Fri., Aug. 21, from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm. The Chorale itself will reassemble on Mon., Sept. 14, to prepare for its annual Holiday Concert. Registration begins that day at 8:30 am, followed by rehearsal from 9:30 am to 12:15 pm.
