health & sPorts Clubs | sun lakes lIfestyles | auGust 2015 | 39 Summer is here and the heat is on the courts. Our Mixed Doubles final was on July 5 and Tracy Galongo and Chuck Beckman are our new Champions, well done. Second place was Pat and Michelle Carter in a match that spanned two weekends. I am waiting for a call from the Governor asking us to have more matches to bring more rain, (we were rained out in April and again in the final set of this match). The consolation round was won by Steve and Sally Jo Schwatz with Ed Lin and Carol Ellis giving them a run for their money. My sincere thanks goes out to all the players and workers that made this event possible. Prizes were donated by Sun Lakes Pro Shop, Sun Lakes Restaurant, Johnny Russo's, Applebee's, Papa Murphy's Pizza, Sizzler's, Patsy's and Papaya Bay Thai Restaurant. Our fundraiser paid for all the club's expense and we are ready for the next nail biting event. On July 12 we had our annual Wimbledon Breakfast followed with a new twist, a wear white and use wood rackets mixer. This was sponsored by Michelle Carter. We are looking forward to this being part of our future. Aug. 1 at 8 am will be our monthly Saturday mixer hosted by Debbie and Nick. Come early get your entry card and enjoy the fun and snacks. You don't have to be a member to play, all skills are welcome. Come and find new people to test your skill with. Our Friday Night Lights mixer is in full swing, sign-up sheets are at the South Clubhouse. Sally Jo is doing a smashing job. Remember you have to get your own partner to play, but you don't have to play to be part of the potluck. Have fun and enjoy tennis. Tacos and Tequila is on Wed., Aug. 19 instead of pizza and beer, so sign up early. Remember there is a charge that needs to be paid in advance watch for the fliers for more details. Watch for the bring a guest event on Sept. 12 hosted by Claudia Martin. Fliers and information are at the South Clubhouse. This should be a hoot. Quarterly membership meeting will be on Sept. 18 this is when we select the nominating committee for next year's board. The Men's Doubles Championship will be Sept. 24, 25, 26, and 17. Men, find your best combination and start practicing. Michelle Walter has volunteered to host this event so watch for details and sign ups. During the last month the new covers at the south courts protected us from both sun and rain. Landscaping has been improved next to the courts while saving valuable water. Maintenance has repaired and improved the practice wall at the north courts. Thanks to management and maintenance for their hard work. Hope to see you on the courts soon. Remember to drink lots of water during play and have fun! Tennis Table Tennis/Ping Pong Good exercise! A fun activity! Great people! That's what you'll find with us.
