Neighborhood Watch 26 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2015 The remarkable community of Four Seasons Beaumont was buzzing during July. What a fun community where neighbors and entire neighborhoods celebrated the Fourth of July week together at neighborhood picnics, pre-fourth parties, cook outs, and a big celebration at the Lodge. New neighborhoods as well as established ones enjoyed each others company. Neighborhood Watch Steering Committee worked on several projects in July. We updated the Neighborhood Watch block captains list. The block captains will meet on Saturday, Aug. 29 in the Lodge from 9 to 11:30 am. If your neighborhood does not have a block captain, and you would like to volunteer, please come to this great orientation/training. For more information call Anita Worthen (951) 595-5396. The NW Steering Committee also worked on two special meetings for August. On Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 6:30 pm the San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital CEO and directors will discuss the upcoming Loma Linda University Hospital partnership and how it will affect us as residents of the district. All residents are invited. The second special meeting will be on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 6:30 pm in the Lodge. California State Senator Mike Morrell will bring us the latest news from Sacramento and will take questions/concerns from the audience. Senator Morrell is our region's senator and this is his second visit to Four Seasons this year. All residents are invited. Remember if you wish to co-sponsor a New Arrival Neighborhood Coffee for your neighbors to get to know each other and learn more about Neighborhood Watch, contact Judy Irving (951) 922-2525. Here is a schedule of what's coming for you at Neighborhood Watch meetings: Aug. 5, San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital speaker panel, 6:30 pm in the Lodge; Aug. 12, Senator Mike Morrell meet and greet, 6:30 pm in the Lodge; Aug. 29, Neighborhood Watch block captains orientation and review, 9 am in the Lodge; and Sept. 9, National Night-Out potluck, 5:30 pm in the Lodge. Remember: If you see something, say something! ~ Judy Irving One should never believe that names for plants have anything to do with their characteristics. The "Obedient" plant is a prime example. This late blooming plant will add color in late summer to a tired garden but has a mind of its own when it comes to staying where you plant it. False Dragonhead (its other name), is a rhizomatous perennial that is native to North America. It grows two to four feet with dark green leaves. There are several varieties. Two are Summer Glow that has pale pink flowering spikes and Summer Snow with translucent white flowers. Yet another name for the plant is "Miss Manners" which produces lavender blossoms. Physosgtegia, its scientific name, grows in almost any soil. Gardeners report that this snapdragon looking plant tolerates dry soil and if left alone in damp soil will spread at a rapid rate. In fact, some consider it a noxious weed when left unchecked. It is recommended that the plant be dug up every two years and divided. Dr Jerilynn Kaibel, director of the hospital's governing board, will detail the expansion, including a six-story patient- care building, new surgical suites, MRI and CT scan facilities and the addition of more doctors and specialties. San Gorgonio is easily the closest hospital to Four Seasons." In an emergency, this is a life saver," said Dr. Kaibel. The expansion will be made possible by a partnership with Loma Linda University Health Care. However, the affiliation must be approved by a vote of the residents of the hospital district, which includes Cabazon, Banning, Beaumont, Cherry Valley and much of Calimesa. Dr, Kaibel said the vote is expected to be held, by mail, in August next year. She urged a yes vote. "With the growth in this area, the health care demands have grown. More and more residents are seeking care locally. This is the mechanism to meet this demand," she said. The hospital is already associated with Beaver Medical Group and that association will continue, said Dr. Kaibel.
