FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2015 27 Do you like to dance? Would you like to learn folk dancing? If you answered yes, then this class could be for you. Originally from Russia, Tsily Hoffman has been a professional dancer for over 53 years. She started at a young age of 14 and was a member of a professional dance ensemble which traveled and gave performances live and on television throughout Russia. Her passion, experience and expertise is what makes her an exceptional teacher. If you would be interested in signing in this class, please contact Hoffman at (310) 651-0127 or inquire in the Lodge. ~ Tsily Hoffman Folk dancing Interest Group Medical Transportation Assistance Interest Group Lawn Bowling Interest Group interest groups and new groups We are looking for anyone interested in the game of Lawn Bowling. It is a very old game that is played in several neighboring communities and the world over. In fact, Lawn Bowls can be traced to the 13th century and is played in over 40 countries today. The object of the game is to get bowls closer to the jack (which is a small white ball) than your opposing team. Your team receives one point for each bowl that is closer. It is a fun game that offers equal opportunity to each player. The bowls are biased so they'll roll in a curve. A typical team is three players. But there can be teams of two to four players. The team includes a lead, a vice skip and a skip. The lead rolls the jack into position and then bowls first. He/She tries to get his bowls close to the jack. The opposing team lead alternates bowls until they each bowl three times. Others in the team can try to get closer to the jack or put in blockers to obstruct the opposition and protect the lead. Usually the skip is a more experienced player and may roll his bowl to disrupt the group of bowls around the jack or roll to gently push out the shot bowl and leave his nearest the jack. It is an interesting game (how does that bowl know when to curve?) and you are able to develop skills at your own pace. There is a sign up interest sheet at the Lodge. ~ Bev Webster Do you like basketball? Would you like to play with a group or with friends? We would like to have you. No experience is necessary. Just a desire to play, get exercise, and have fun. We at Four Seasons are fortunate to have a great court to play on. I would like to organize a group of men and women, young, old, or in the middle who would like to have fun playing basketball. If you have any questions, call Richard Hoffman at (310) 869-8069, or inquire at the Lodge. ~ Richard Hoffman basketball Interest Group The city of Beaumont is considering a proposal by the Medical Transportation Assistance interest group for a subsidized "Dial-a- Cab" service for seniors. Four Seasons residents Brenda and Richard Teeman presented the plan, derived from an operating system in Walnut, Calif., to the city. The cost for a ride to a medical facility could be just $5. Mayor Brenda Knight asked her staff to look into it. "This could be a great asset to our senior communities," the mayor said. The interest group has placed questionnaires in the Lodge, seeking information that it hopes will support the need for such a service. "If we can prove there are enough people who go out of the immediate area for their medical care we will have a better chance for applying for these funds," said Brenda Teeman. "Please answer the questions," she said. The Riverside County Office on Aging has an existing program called Trip. The senior who needs transport must recruit his or her own driver and enroll in the program. Once the senior is accepted, the driver will be paid 32 cents a mile for up to 300 miles a month. The trips need not be limited to medical visits – grocery shopping and other essential trip are covered. For information call the office at (800) 510-2020. Residents interested in joining the Four Seasons group or helping in any other way should call (909) 594- 8487. ~ Brenda Teeman
