4 | sun lakes lifestyles | sePteMBeR 2015 | The transponder exchange in the Main Clubhouse Parking Lot by Administration is now over. If you have not had the chance to exchange your old transponder for the new Sirit Headlamp Tag, then please go inside the administration office to complete your exchange. Please bring your new Resident Information Form with you (filled out completely). If you have lost your form, we will have extra forms available. Please keep in mind that both the new and old vehicle access devices (transponders) will work on the new system. The old transponders will be deactivated on Dec. 31, 2015, so please ensure that you have switched your old device before that time. If, at any time, you have problems with the new or old transponder, please contact the administration receptionist at 769-6649. 2015 Transponder Exchange Wondering how to make your yard more water conservation friendly? Here are some ideas from the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, on how you can prepare your soil to use less water. Aerate your soil and lawn Over time, soil compacts and forms an impenetrable surface. Aeration breaks up the hard surface so the water can soak in to give your plants more oxygen, nutrients and water. And you'll see less water running down the street. • For planter beds, use a hand tool to gently turn the surface of the soil. Be careful working in the root zones so you don't damage your plants. • For lawns, use a manual coring aerator (available to rent or purchase at home improvement stores). Water one to two days before you plan to aerate to moisten the soil so it doesn't compact around the holes. Mulch your plant beds Water quickly evaporates from bare soil. Mulch minimizes water loss and, returns nutrients to the soil as it decomposes. Keep it replenished – it will help your garden look terrific. • Spread a two to three-inch layer of mulch in plant beds and around trees. Keep mulch away from the base of shrubs and trees to prevent decay and disease. We hope you find this information to be helpful. ~ Mark Schleiden, Director of Operation Drought friendly lawns Districts 21, 22 and 23 invite you to the annual tri-district fashion show and luncheon, Mystique of Fashion, on Oct. 30.
