| sun lakes lifestyles | sePteMBeR 2015 | 37 Sun Lakers at Canyon Lanes Our Summer League is over and everyone had a great time. Especially one team. They call themselves S.O.B's (Same Old Bowlers). Well those S.O.B.'s ran away with it, as they took first place in our summer league. They made it look easy. At one time they had a record of 29 wins and only three losses. It was only in the last few weeks that anyone made a move to catch them. Ginger Chavez, George Chavez, Yvonne Wood, and Ray Struchen took first place. The Pretenders tried to catch them at the finish but it was too late. Harry Taylor, Claudia Malinowski, Al Malinowski, and Bruce Herwig made a great effort but came in second. For the men, Andy Toro had High Scratch Series with 728, Dolph Mason had high scratch game with 279, Dan Comerford had high handicap series with 792, and Ray Struchen had high handicap game with 305. For the women, Mitzi Taniguchi had high scratch series with 580, Beverly Bly had high scratch game with 214, Donna Reed had high handicap series with 747, and Lisa Koerbel had high handicap game with 299. The temperatures were hot but the bowling was even hotter. Great bowling to all of our bowlers and hope to see you all in the fall. If I had been on " Bowling for Dollars" I would have ended up owing them money. Sun Lakers & Friends Summer bowling has come to an end and many of us have started the fall season. Let's not forget our Tuesday League, which starts later than the other leagues at Morongo. Our organizational meeting will be held on Oct. 16, at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. Don't be late! If you are a returning bowler or are new to this League contact Teri Comerford (760-217- 9656) or Peggy Laure (808-779-1679) for more information and to sign up. This league starts on Oct. 20, at 9 am and finishes up on March 29, 2016. If you are new to bowling, see Norris Runnels at the pro-shop at Canyon Lanes in Morongo. He can get you squared away with a new ball, shoes and a bag at a bargain price. See you in October! Home Again Bowling WOW, WHAT EXCITEMENT! High scores galore in July. We were treated to some top notch bowling this past month. As the season winds down to the end in the next three weeks, we find Team 8, "Me-N-3" leading the standings! This all Sun Lakes team of Mitzi Taniguichi, Dick Taylor, Sandy Hepburn and Ken Smelker have a five game lead going into August. Close behind is team "Nice Try," team 3 with Louise Deal, Ed Sterger, Tom Keheley and Bill Ostretkar. Team 1, "In The Hunt" with Ken Elsing, Lil McLean, Micki Elsing and Bob McLean were a half game back. Many of our Sun Lakes bowlers are in more than one league and appear as team mates one day and as opponents on the second day. This makes for great, friendly competition with lots of fun and laughter. The past four or five weeks have produced some great scores. Bob McLean rolled a 279 scratch game with only a fifth frame single pin spare keeping him from another perfect 300! On July 29 his 706 scratch, 760 handicap series with all three games over 225 was outstanding! His better half, Lil McLean had a season high of 728 series with handicap. Watch out for these two in sweepstakes! Lisa Park rolled a clean game of 192 scratch, 271 with handicap and a series of 718. "Atta Girl Lisa!" Our winter league starts Sept. 16. Like to see your name in print? Join our fun league and give it a try! We look forward to sweepstakes and the season ending banquet luncheon Aug. 29. Good luck and high scores to all!
