OCTOBER PROGRAM: Please join us at the October meeting of the Garden Club on Oct. 14 at 10 am in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom to hear Roxanne Bon from Beaumont Nursery speak on "Fall Planting." Roxanne always has great tips on specific plantings for the Pass area. Refreshments will be served. November will bring Carol Homre demonstrating Living Art for Christmas. If you love to garden we always have interesting topics and tips for you to use in your home gardens. TRIPS: Enjoy the beauty and history of the Historic Mission Inn. The Mission Inn Museum Tour, the mall shops and ice skating rink. Take a horse and buggy ride around the Mission Inn. They are for hire. Enjoy dinner at one of the fine restaurants in the area. It is your choice. The lights and decorations are different every year. The date of this trip is Dec. 2. We will depart Sun Lakes at 2 pm. There will be one bus only so reservations are limited. We will return to Sun Lakes by 8 pm. $55 for tour and bus. For further information please call Evelyn Hawkins at 845-7199. FRUIT PICKERS: We hear there are still some fruit trees out there that need to be picked. What are you waiting for? Don't let that late summer fruit go to waste. Call us. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom at 10 am. Our membership dues are $15 pp for the year. GARDEN CLUB CHARITIES: Last month you overwhelmed the chairman of donations of soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. with your generosity. Thank you! Barbara was able to donate to several local charities that help those in need. Just the simplest of things are always appreciated by the recipients. For the eyeglasses, box tops, suitcases, cell phones and stuffed animals, please call Joan Blumenfeld at 845-6715 for further information. SEES CANDIES: Need gift certificates for Sees Candies? We always have them on hand and the gift certificates make great gifts for any occasion. Please call Maureen Keeney for more info. at 797-0011. The holidays will be arriving soon and those chocolates that you love will once again be offered for sale by the Garden Club. Different nuts grow best in certain climates, i.e. walnuts in drier climates and macadamia nut in rainier climates. California produces much of the world's supply of walnuts. Mr. Peanut was created by a 13-year-old boy in a logo contest in 1916. Peanut butter has a protein content of 28 percent. October will bring "Food Gifts for the Holidays." You know that relative or friend who appears to have everything? Well here is your opportunity to put together a food gift that will be a big hit. Join in the fun with this "hands on" program. See you on Fri., Oct. 23 at 11am in the South Clubhouse. Mark your calendars for Thurs., Dec. 3 in the North Clubhouse, for our annual holiday party. Final plans are being made and will be available at our meetings. Don't miss this super holiday event. Remember there will be no meeting in November. For membership information, contact Carolyn Wright, 979-3568. Happy Cookers Chorale The Sun Lakes Chorale is looking for energetic individuals who love to sing! It's registration time once again, as we get ready for our 25th annual holiday concert in December. This year our program takes a nostalgic look back at the favorite holiday songs that we've sung for you over the last 25 years. If you love to sing, please join us on Mon., Sept. 14 for registration and music pick-up at 8:30 am in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. Please bring a check for membership made out to the Chorale, in the amount of $15. Part-specific CDs will be available to members, at no additional cost. Our practice follows from 9:30 am to 12:15 pm in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom. The Chorale Picnic will be held that same evening at 5:30 pm, also in the Ballroom, at $16 pp. See you there! Low Vision Support Group Join us for the new Low Vision Support Group. We meet the 2nd and 4th Monday each month from 10 am to 12 noon in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room. The purpose of this group is to empower visually impaired people to live fulfilling lives. We will share information regarding the basics of blindness and visual impairment. We will discuss the emotional impact of sight loss and how to cope with the changes in lifestyle. During each meeting we will have a speaker and provide tips on how to safely get around your home and community. Resources will be developed to help our group. Info., Rita Skwara, 267-3054.
