| sun lakes lifestyles | OCtOBeR 2015 | 23 The Mystery Theater reconvened on Sept. 1. Our meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom, stage side, at 1 pm. We hope that you are as excited as we are for the 2016 That's Entertainment Production. Here is a little sneak preview: the 2016 production will be based on the Musical Gypsy - book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and the Hovick family's life in vaudeville. The Production will be called From Vaudeville to Gypsy, and is an adaptation focusing on the story of Gypsy from Momma Rose's perspective. This adaptation will be a continuous chronological production from Act I through Act II, featuring acts from vaudeville, burlesque, and early Broadway. The script for the production has been written and the auditions for From Vaudeville to Gypsy were held in September. However if you were unable to attend the September auditions, don't despair, there is one additional audition on Tues., Oct. 6, directly following the Mystery Theater's monthly meeting. By the end of October all acts, singers, performers and dancers will be selected, rehearsal calendar set, and rehearsals will begin in November. The 2016 T.E. Artistic Director is Pat Naylor, Raelene Kretchman- Assistant Artistic Director, Susan Fitzpatrick-Director of Choreography, Jan Stapel-Musical Director, Michael Owen-Artistic Consultant, and Michael & Lee Stone-Production Directors. We are looking for enthusiastic Sun Lakers to help with scene construction and painting, costume construction or alteration, backstage assistance (moving lightweight scenery) assistant stage manager, dresser, house management, dress the tables for the production, and ticket sales. Hope to see you at our next meeting on Tues., Oct. 6, at 1 pm. Mystery Theater & More October finds the Drama Club presenting its fall production, The Odd Couple – female version by Neil Simon. This hilarious comedy will feature Lee Stone as Olive Madison and Lynne Lewis as Florence Unger leading a wonderful cast of Drama Club members Sallie Smelker as Sylvie, Martie Steggell as Mickey, Rose Hermanson as Renee, Ruth Bray as Vera and Dee Williams and Fred Hanrahan as the upstairs neighbors, the Castaneda brothers. The cast as been working hard under the direction of Michael Owen to produce an incredible performance that will catch your interest at the opening line and hold the audience enthralled until the closing curtain. Bob Bray is leading the set construction crew of volunteers and they hope to complete that job all in one day on Oct. 18. If you'd like to help show up stage side in the Ballroom at 7 am on the 18th. Tickets go on sale in the lobby of the main clubhouse on Oct. 5 through Oct. 21 from 9 am to 2:30 pm. Opening night will be Oct. 22. The next Reader's Theatre production of Sorry Wrong Number and The Hitchhiker by author Lucille Fletcher will bring exciting suspense drama to the South Clubhouse the evening of Nov. 21. Reader's Theatre is a favorite of Drama Club members and other interested thespians in the community as it involves no memorization and few rehearsals. Auditions for the 28 parts, some doubling is possible, will be Oct. 5 and 6 in the Main Clubhouse busroom from 9 am to 12 noon. Director Bob Bray is quickly becoming a real spark plug in the group and his enthusiasm is contagious. The performance will start at 7 pm preceded by a wine and cheese reception at 6:30 pm. These performances are always a sellout so be sure to get your paid reservations in to Harriet Briant (769-0383) early. The slate of officers for the next two years is as follows: President, Lee Stone; Vice President for Events, Bob Bray; Vice President for Publicity, Russell Anderson; Treasurer, Harriet Briant; and Secretary, Sue Dunn. Nominations from the floor at the October meeting of the club will be welcomed.
