| sun lakes lifestyles | OCtOBeR 2015 |29 Cruzin' Cronies Cruizin' Cronies is the Sun Lakes Classic Car Club, and you don't have to have a classic car to be a member. Regular club meetings are held on the first Saturday of each month. We often display our cars, have a short meeting in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room, and go to breakfast at a local restaurant. There are no dues, no extra fees, just friendship, stories, and laughter. Often we plan featured speakers, day trips, and car shows. On Oct. 3, we're having a Poker Run. All new members are welcome to our meeting at 8:30 am in the Multipurpose Room, and once you join our club, you'll be able to purchase a poker packet for $10 and caravan with us to the Tukwet Canyon Country Club. There, as we enjoy a delicious breakfast, we'll get our last card and see who the winners are. Come and join us! On Oct. 17, we're participating in a car show at the Edward Dean Museum on Beaumont Avenue. Our cars will meet at the Main Clubhouse at 7:30 am, and caravan to the museum. The event opens at 9 am, and is FREE to spectators. There will be classic cars to see, vendors for pre-holiday shopping, and food booths. Come and enjoy! Our last meeting, "Remember the 50's," was a great success. A special "thank you" to Mical and Dennis Cisterna, who planned a wonderful social evening, to Provi Donadio for providing a fabulous menu, to Jeannette Cadmus and crew for transforming the South Clubhouse, and an extra special "thank you" to all of you who made it a fantastic evening. The Paisano Club, with over 140 members, has been called one of the friendliest clubs in all of Sun Lakes. Oktoberfest is coming up very soon! We will have wonderful food as usual, along with entertainment that will keep your foot tapping and maybe even get you up dancing. Perhaps we can coax Vicki and Friends to teach us how to Polka. Since The Follies are on the same weekend, be sure to keep Fri., Oct. 2 free to enjoy a great night with friends. Same place: South Clubhouse at 5:30 pm. BYOB and we will provide coffee and water. November will be a time of remembrance as we celebrate Veteran's Day. A few years ago we had Karaoke with DJ Blast, Barb and Rosie. They did a unique commemoration for our military men and women and gave away some terrific gifts as well. Also, this is our chance to express ourselves by singing some of the old songs such as "Grand Ole Flag" and "America the Beautiful" just to name a few. You will not want to miss this wonderful celebration to our countrymen and women, Fri., Nov. 6, South Clubhouse at 5:30 pm. Contact Provi at 845-1601, 630 Twin Hills, North Side. December doesn't always bring snow to SLCC; however, it is a unique season and we have the opportunity to be one of the first clubs to share in Christmas cheer and holiday joy. So save this date… Dec. 4, at the South Clubhouse. Do you remember how Jeannette Cadmus and her Santa's Helpers transformed the South Clubhouse to a room full of magic? Do you remember all the prizes? Do you remember how we laughed with the unique husband and wife team? Club members are still talking about this exceptional evening; we will try to outdo ourselves this year with another husband and wife performing team, and they are new Sun Lakes' residents. Need more info. regarding the Paisano Club? Call Judy Garthwaite, President, at 797-3130, who would enjoy telling you about this wonderful group. This is not part of the Ruidoso Rally but it is truly a "Bucket List" event. Make your reservations for this ASAP at: balloonfiesta.com. Oct. 21: General meeting/pizza party with new board members being announced. If you would like to enjoy the company of good friends and fun times in some beautiful settings, this is the club for you. We offer planned activities at each of our rallies with your choice of participation. RV Club Jay and Barbara Jesus and their 2004 Chevrolet SSR When Jay and Barbara Jesus aren't out dancing, they can be seen driving around Sun Lakes in their snazzy 2004 Chevrolet Super Sport Roadster. "I love the car," said Jay, a retired professional dancer. "It gives me everything… horsepower, practicality, and looks. It's a car, pickup truck, and convertible, all in one." The car has all the amenities one can imagine: power steering, anti-lock brakes, retractable hardtop, heated seats, CD player, air conditioning, and a running board. Chevrolet discontinued production of the unusual-looking SSR in 2006, which is why you don't see many of them on the road today. Jay saw one in 2001, and fell in love with it. "I traded in my 1958 Thunderbird for it!" he laughed. Their sleek "Purple People Eater" has 46,700 miles on it. Jay and Barbara, a retired business executive, drive it only to car shows and in caravans to and from special events. The Jesuses moved to Sun Lakes in 1994. Jay was a dancer, singer, and actor, rubbing elbows with celebrities like Doris Day, Dwight Yoakum, and Pernell Roberts. He owned dance studios, gave lessons, and participated in the Palm Springs Follies.
