Here it is October already, where did our summer go? The older we get, time seems to go by so swiftly. Now the year is just a number, tell us it is 2017, we'll probably believe you. It is about time we pat ourselves on the back for all of the volunteer work we do in the Pass Area. There isn't a worthwhile charity or good works group or needy situation that you will not find Sun Lakers part of. We contribute two of our most worthwhile possessions, our time and our money. We have the same situation in our own complex. Five Board members, 46 Delegates and Alternate Delegates, a hundred or more Advisory Committee members all donate their time and talents to operate our community efficiently and friendly. If that isn't a lot, we have another bunch of volunteers who run some eighty clubs and groups for the benefit of our residents. One would have to come to the conclusion that we were pretty smart to move to Sun Lakes and spend the rest of our days here. About now you are wondering why are we saying all of these nice things, when is the other shoe going to drop? Actually, we believe we deserve a big "thank you" from our own community and the Pass Area Community at large. Most of us had no idea we would live in a place like Sun Lakes after we retired. When we moved in and got acquainted and began to find our way around, we became a member of a grand group of people. When we began to participate, our reward was the satisfaction of accomplishing something for the benefit of our neighbors and friends. When we hear—"you did a great job" or "nice going" or "thanks for your help"—you make our day, not that we want to be praised, but we like to hear someone appreciates our efforts to help out. There is always a need for more help, more volunteers. After participating for years, we need to be replaced by someone with new ideas and new energy. In the next month or two many of our advisory committees will need help, so will many of our clubs and groups. How about you lending a hand, volunteer to help out in your favorite club or committee. We know there are great pools of talent in our community, give us a small portion of your time, please. REPORT: a few months ago we discussed helping our own. Last month we held a meeting for all those interested in this project. There have been three meetings resulting in electing officers and beginning a list of things we will do to help our fellow members. We already have 30 volunteers but we need more to complete our ambitious program. The name of the organization is "SUN LAKERS CARE." In such a short time our great Sun Lakers took action! Our motto: "IT'S THE PEOPLE"!
