FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2015 27 Do you like to dance? Would you like to learn folk or modern dancing? If you answered yes, then we have new classes for you. Originally from Russia, Tsily Hoffman has been a professional dancer for over 53 years. She started at a young age of 14 and was a member of a professional dance ensemble which traveled and gave performances live and on television throughout Russia. Her passion, experience and expertise is what makes her an exceptional teacher. If you would be interested in either class, please contact Hoffman at (310) 651-0127 or inquire in the Lodge. ~ Tsily Hoffman We're forming an interest group for dog owners at Four Seasons. The objective of the group is to improve the integration of the canine community into the Four Seasons environment. For additional information, contact Patrick at (951) 769-7626. ~ Patrick Gerety Folk and modern dance Interest Group D.O.G. Dog Owners' Interest Group Medical Transportation Assistance Interest Group Lawn Bowling Interest Group interest groups We are looking for anyone interested in the game of Lawn Bowling. It is a very old game that is played in several neighboring communities and the world over. In fact, Lawn Bowls can be traced to the 13th century and is played in over 40 countries today. The object of the game is to get bowls closer to the jack (which is a small white ball) than your opposing team. Your team receives one point for each bowl that is closer. It is a fun game that offers equal opportunity to each player. The bowls are biased so they'll roll in a curve. A typical team is three players. But there can be teams of two to four players. The team includes a lead, a vice skip and a skip. The lead rolls the jack into position and then bowls first. He/She tries to get his bowls close to the jack. The opposing team lead alternates bowls until they each bowl three times. Others in the team can try to get closer to the jack or put in blockers to obstruct the opposition and protect the lead. Usually the skip is a more experienced player and may roll his bowl to disrupt the group of bowls around the jack or roll to gently push out the shot bowl and leave his nearest the jack. It is an interesting game (how does that bowl know when to curve?) and you are able to develop skills at your own pace. There is a sign up interest sheet at the Lodge. ~ Bev Webster Brenda Teeman addressed the Beaumont City Council on Sept. 2 to advocate a tax-supported transportation system to get seniors to medical facilities. "Our own and surrounding towns have encouraged senior citizens to come live out their lives here," she said. "With this comes responsibility for supplying 65 and older with the essentials to live independently here." She noted that many residents need transportation to distant locations like Palm Springs, Redlands, Riverside, Moreno Valley, and Fontana. Many seniors are no longer able to drive or are on medications that make driving unwise. Others "with cancer and those needing physical therapy need convenient rides of the shortest duration," she said. Beaumont Mayor Brenda Knight has expressed interest in a Dial-a- Cab service. Then Brenda Teeman and her husband Richard said it costs some $200 now for a cab ride from Four Seasons to Kaiser Fontana, for example. They hope to see the city negotiate a contract with the cab companies that would reduce that fare to some reasonable amount for a 24-hour, tax-supported, one-stop service. Brenda told the council, "We need better door-to-door travel from the (local community) club houses directly to medical facilities. I urge you to work on this most urgent matter for senior citizens you have encouraged to come here," she said. Mario Janesin, community organizer for the Community Access Center in Riverside applauded Teeman's efforts. "You did a great job at the council meeting," he said. "It must have been exciting for you. It was for me. Persons interested in joining the Medical Transportation Assistance interest group should call (909) 594-8487. ~ Brenda and Richard Teeman
