FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | OCTOBER 2015 39
Counter Culture Cinema
Now that we have a brand new projector in our movie theater,
I am happy to announce that the movies we missed in August
are rescheduled for October!
Our first screening on Sunday, Oct. 11
at 6 pm, is the film Elsa and Fred (USA
2014, 97 minutes, English). Here is a
brief description from Amazon.com:
"Elsa and Fred is the story of two people
who, at the end of the road, discover that
it's never too late to love. After losing
his wife, Fred (Christopher Plummer)
feels disturbed, confused and alone, so
his daughter (Marcia Gay Harden) helps
move him into a small apartment where
he meets Elsa (Shirley MacLaine). From
that moment on, everything changes. Elsa bursts into Fred's life
like a whirlwind, determined to teach him that the time he has
left to live is precious and that he should enjoy it as he pleases."
Our second October screening, on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 6 pm,
is the film Mr. Turner (UK 2014, 144 minutes, English). Here
is a brief description from IMDB.com: "Mr. Turner explores
the last quarter century of the great if eccentric British painter
J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851). Profoundly affected by the death
of his father, loved by a housekeeper he takes for granted and
occasionally exploits sexually, he forms a close relationship with
a seaside landlady with whom he eventually lives incognito in
Chelsea, where he dies. Throughout this, he travels, paints,
stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular
if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself
strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm,
and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty."
All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about
the film. We'd love to have you join us.
The Lodge theatre has very limited
seating, so if you're interested in
our screenings, come early; we hope
to see you there. Please note that
all films announced are subject
to availability. If you have any
questions about the Counter Culture
Cinema Club or want to recommend
a film, please email Micki Rosen
at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~
