| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2015 |27 The holidays are often filled with opportunities for togetherness, sharing, laughter and memories. This year let's adjust our expectations. Call a face-to-face meeting or arrange for a telephone conference call with family and friends to discuss holiday celebrations. Make sure everyone understands your care giving situation and has realistic expectations about what you can and cannot do. No one should expect you to maintain every holiday tradition or event. Give yourself permission to do only what you can reasonably manage. If you've always invited 15 to 20 people to your home, consider inviting five for a simple meal. Familiarize others with your situation by writing a letter or email similar to the following. "I'm writing to let you know how things are going at our house. We're looking forward to your visit, and we thought it might be helpful for you to understand our current situation before you arrive. You may notice that _____ has changed since you last saw him/ her. Among the changes you may notice are ____. I've enclosed a picture so you know how ____ looks now. Because ______ sometimes has problems remembering and thinking clearly, his/her behavior is a little unpredictable. Please understand that _____may not remember who you are and may confuse you with someone else. Please don't feel offended by this. He/she appreciates your being with us and so do we. Please treat _____ as you would any person. A warm smile and a gentle touch on _____'s shoulder or hand will be appreciated more than you know. We would ask that you call when you're nearby so we can prepare for your arrival. With your help and support, we can create a holiday memory that we'll all treasure. Happy holidays to all of you. Our speaker for November is a local doctor from Rancho Paseo Medical Group, Dr. Ted Wymann MD. Please bring your loved one for games and entertainment. They'll headline the Friendship Club's last concert of 2015, on Sun., Nov. 8. Now celebrating its GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY, the internationally acclaimed folk singers have delighted millions all over the world for five decades. They've played thousands of college concerts, serenaded four U.S. presidents at the White House, performed with symphony orchestras and jazz stars and entertained in dozens of foreign countries. Their million-selling songs include Greenfields, Yellow Bird, Try to Remember, Across the Wide Missouri, and The Green Leaves of Summer. The Brothers Four were pioneers in the musical movement known as the "folk revival." Their all-acoustic presentation consists of guitars, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, and the rich blend of their four voices in consistently smooth, warm, harmonies. Fraternity brothers at the University of Washington in Seattle, The Brothers Four began singing together in 1956. By 1960, they were America's Musical Ambassadors to the World. They still are, with two of its original members — Bob Flick, leader, upright bass player, producer, and arranger, and Mark Pearson, who plays six- and 12-string guitars and banjo. Veteran folk performers Mike McCoy and Karl Olsen complete the quartet. Tickets are $20 for members, $25 for non-resident guests. Doors open at 6 pm, and the show begins at 7 pm.
