36 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | NOVEMBER 2015 | Play-offs are just around the corner and it has been an interesting season! Between dodging raindrops and working through a divided schedule, it's been a fun time!! Most teams managed to follow their schedule with little difficulty. It's always a 'guess-and-by- gosh' decision when to switch times. So far, it has worked reasonably well. Our club membership has reached 500! We're the largest sports club in Sun Lakes; could it be we have more fun?! The holiday season approaches, followed by the Winter Tournament, which begins after the first of the year. The new yearly schedule will be completed during the holiday layoff. The December article will cover the 2016 schedule. Our winter bocce participation is always a little low. Yes, winters in the Pass can be chilly, but wouldn't it be nice to get out, once a week, interact with others, get a breath of fresh air and a little exercise? It's only one hour! Bundle up and join us. Last winter, we wore shorts most of the time! Think on it! Our referees are volunteers, all they get is a luncheon in January and an extra pickle for good works! Have you thanked them lately? Might give you a leg up… just kidding! See you on the courts! Friends of Bocce Though fall is in the air, we are still experiencing plenty of warm weather on these October days. Both sports are still quite active and welcoming new players to both Pickleball & Paddle (POP) Tennis. Our October Pickleball Tournament was held on Oct. 10 at 8 am. Tournament Director, Nick Caputo, handled the random draw from a field of 16 players, with a double elimination format. Results were not available for this month's magazine but will be made known in next month's article. The year-end party was held on Oct. 17 at the North side Clubhouse. Prior to the festivities, a short meeting was held to elect a new President to replace Wade Sampson, who resigned. Johnny Russo's catered an Italian Feast with scrumptious entrees of either lasagna or a chicken dish which were accompanied with a tossed salad, garlic bread and dessert. Members paid $5 and guests $10. Following the meal, entertainment was provided by Sheila and Larry James. We offer loaner equipment for both Pickleball and Paddle (POP) Tennis and encourage anyone interested to stop by the courts any morning of the week to see what these games are all about. Pickleball is played every morning, Monday through Saturday, at 8 am and Paddle (Pop) Tennis is played Tues., Thurs. and Fri. at 8 am and Tues. and Thurs. evenings at 5 pm.
