48 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | NOVEMBER 2015 As we enter the holiday season our extended rides end for the season. We continue our Thursday rides as weather permits. We will have our annual "End of Season" family dinner at a Palm Springs restaurant in November. Our monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 6 pm. If you ride, come join us. ~ Howard Lyon Motorcycle Club It's so interesting to observe the increase in skill that our members exhibit each week. We are onto them, though. We know they slip into the billiards room to practice every chance they get, so it's obvious why they're improving. What it really comes down to is they love the game and its challenges. From outward appearances it looks like a really easy game, right? Hit the colorful balls into each of the six pockets. Simple. In actuality, it takes a lot of skill and even more practice. It's fascinating to watch the strategies in play, as well as the intense focus. Don't get us wrong, though. In between all the practice, focus, shooting and skill, there's always lots of laughter, joking and cheering. We are not a competitive bunch (well, mostly), but just have fun while increasing skills and taking on new challengers each week. Overall, we have a blast. In September to early October some of our members participated in the Hemet OLDlympics, and had a great time. (See photos of our medal winners.) Consistent with past events, our October potluck was amazing. The members and wives of members sure can cook and/or bake. Okay, so some of the people bring goodies from our convenient supermarkets, but still, the fare is abundant and delicious. Coming up on Nov. 3 is our quarterly in-house tournament, which makes nerves rattle and heartbeats quicken. Okay, okay, so that's an exaggeration. Everyone loves the competition! We have such a great time. After double elimination, the morning group's winners will challenge the afternoon group's winners, and the last partnership standing will be the champs. Actually, all the players are champs in our book. Really. If you would be interested in joining a diverse and happy group of billiards players, please come by the Billiards Room and meet us. We have two sessions: Tuesdays from 11 am to 1 pm and also from 1 to 3 pm. Additionally, we have two informal practice sessions on Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 am, and from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Come see how much fun we have. You'll surely want to join us. ~ Eileen Gilbert-Antoine Billiards for Fun Pete Antoine preparing to shoot the ball in the Group B billiards tournament Bill Sanders lines up a shot in the Group B billiards tournament Pete Antoine won the Group B gold medal Richard Carrasco won the Group C gold medal
