FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2015 33 We meet the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Craft Room at the Lodge. Our next meeting will be Dec. 15. Visitors are always welcome. We invite all photographers, regardless of skill level, to join us for our regular meetings and field trips. Members are always eager to help and teach. For the November meeting, the assignment was the use of "bokeh." Wikipedia defines this word as coming from the Japanese word "boke" meaning (in a photographic sense) the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens (on a camera). For example, if you take a picture of someone in an environment that does not have an interesting background, then the photographer may want to have the final picture show the subject (foreground) in focus with the background out of focus or blurry. This would be the use of bokeh, i.e. the blurry background. One of the ways to do this would be to open up the aperture setting of the lens, to f 2.8 or f 3.5. We had some great representations showing both the use of bokeh and not using bokeh, i.e. sharp foreground and background. As always, our goal is to educate our members on how to become better photographers. Our club has introduced additional topics to our meetings with various members giving presentations to the members on a subject they know and/or use, e.g. photography topic, software, hardware, etc. Last month, camera club member Ken Skeeters discussed thoughtful critiquing of photographs and also did a PowerPoint presentation on bokeh. More great topics coming up. Thanksgiving is behind us and more holidays are fast approaching. Visit one of our meetings soon to learn tips and tricks for those holidays pictures. We hope to see you soon. ~ Lyle Cameron Camera Club Camera Club Chairperson Irve Sturner took this photo Oct. 3 at the MCAS Miramar Air Station in San Diego, home of Top Gun,.
