42 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | DECEMBER 2015 Racquet Club At its annual meeting, in an election that Vladimir Putin would have admired, there were five candidates for five positions, and they were the same five members who served on the Racquet Club Committee for the last two years. So, without any actual votes being cast, the recycled committee for 2016-2018 (it's pretty optimistic to have multi-year terms at the old-folks' home.) is Irve Sturner, Barbara Miller, Howard Lyon, Romy Villena, and Steven Hovey. In addition to the committee members, the club approved the appointment of two Ambassadors: Mickey and Howard Nelson. As ex-officio members of the committee, they won't get to vote on the many high-level decisions of the committee, but they will be authorized to continue to bring extra fun and motivation to the monthly Play Days. At the October Play Day, the weather was beautiful and the turn- out was great with more than a dozen players joining in at one time or another. The Ambassador Nelsons once again provided extra interest in the good-natured competitions by awarding drawing tickets based on the number of games won by the players. However, once the tickets were drawn, it was apparent that the process was about as predictable as the so-called election. Proving that oligarchy is good for the oligarchs, the first drawing prize went to committee member Romy Villena, and he received an Eiffel Tower lantern with a used candle in it. The second drawing prize went to committee member Steven Hovey, and he received a Louvre Clock with Roman Numerals as the numbers. Breaking through the committee member prize sweep, was Rick Loney, who wore the best Halloween attire, a skull and spine t-shirt. His prize avoided the French theme, and he walked away with a bag of candy and a toy rat. On behalf of the Club and all tennis players, the Committee thanks Cindy Graves and the HOA for purchasing a new court squeegee used for drying the courts. If El NiƱo brings us the much-needed precipitation, we will need to be able to dry the courts to assure safe play. Four Seasons residents are reminded that the Racquet Club hosts Play Days on the last Saturday of every month, and all tennis-playing residents are welcome to come out and play, without regard to ability or level of play. We play four games of no-ad scoring, so matches don't take real long, and players can rotate in without too much waiting. Play begins at VIII: XXX am ~ Steve Hovey Table Tennis One if by Day, Two if by Night. This closely guarded secret code is used by ping pong players to indicate when they are playing. Until recently we only had One if by Day because we only played during daylight hours. Due to the growing popularity of this fun and exciting sport, we now have Two if by Night. The idea for this night time play under was the brain child of David Rohrbacker and Neil Edelbaum. Why did they come up with the idea? Well, these poor souls are still working but they love ping pong. That meant that Saturday was their only option for play time. Now they can work by day and play by night. If you are still working you now have the opportunity to join in all the fun. We play ping pong on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 6:30 pm. Although this was started for working people, it is open to everyone. A few people even use Three if by Day/Night because they play both day and night. We are hooked on ping pong and we think that if you come to join us, you will be hooked, too. Contact Neil Edelbaum (760) 877-5619 for more information about night time ping pong and Niles Sundstrom (951) 572-5119 for information on our Ping Pong Club in general. ~ Niles Sundstrom Here are a few of the fun loving people who play ping pong at night
