10 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2015 | I first want to extend the very best to all of you during this holiday season. The Christmas tree decorations along Country Club drive are so festive and beautiful. Seeing the lights and creativity is my favorite part of the season. The biggest challenge this winter is the slowing down of growth on the course. Colder temperatures will yield faster and firmer conditions. Be prepared for the tighter lies and fast green speeds. We are raising mow heights, but the speed will continue to develop. Over the next few weeks reserve items will be on the agenda. Scheduled in 2016 are all of the bunkers on the Executive Course and the fairway bunkers on the Championship Course. By the time of this publication we will have the wigeons and coots back on the property. If you are inclined when you are playing golf and see the birds out grazing on the fairway; don't be afraid to chase the birds back towards the lake. This will help reduce feces and debris on the primary area of play. I want to extend my thanks to all of the Divot Doctors for their countless efforts repairing divots on our tees and greens on both courses. Job well done! Merry Christmas from all of the crew at Golf Course Maintenance. ~ Mark Burchfield, Course Superintendent Happy Holidays!
