This is the month of celebrations. Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year. They all happen within the next thirty- some days. They are the foundation of our constitution, and don't tell me I can't celebrate them the way I want to. We have a lot to be thankful for and we should celebrate with our friends and relatives and neighbors. Every district has a party during the holiday season. Why are you staying home and not enjoying with others? There are dinner dances, brunches, breakfasts, tours and other special events during December. Be part of it. A crowd always makes a gala event. Most of the districts combine with other districts to insure a larger attendance. It is more fun with a lot of people. Our district has joined two other districts for a holiday dinner dance and a holiday brunch. There are a lot of residents who do not want to go out in the evening, hence, the holiday brunch. Of course, many people attend both affairs. If you are interested in attending, give me a call. Our events are always open to all of our residents and their guests. If you are lonely during the holidays, it is your own fault. There are so many events in our complex during the holidays you should join with others and have fun. Sun Lakers are the nicest people on earth. Sit next to one at a dinner and soon you are treated like a long lost cousin. Of course, there is nothing wrong with asking your neighbors if they are going to the district party and agree to sit together. There are some who hesitate to do this because they do not understand what it means to live in a gated community. Our residents are closer, friendlier and do many more things together than ordinary neighborhoods. That is why you moved to Sun Lakes Country Club — for the friendship and togetherness, isn't it? Call your district delegate, enjoy the holidays by celebrating with others. HAPPY HANUKKAH! A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS! HAPPY KWANZAA! A PROSPEROUS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR! DELEGATE ASSEMBLY REPORT Joe Formino, Chairman, District Delegate Assembly 6 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2015 | SUN LAKES MARINES & FRIENDS During the holiday season, many like to share their good fortune with good charitable organizations. The Sun Lakes Marines & Friends are supporting the Twentynine Palms Armed Services YMCA and would like you to help in this effort. Our men and women in uniform make sacrifices each and every day for our country and our freedom, and so do their families. Military children deal with a host of unique issues relating to their lifestyles, family stresses and constant cycle of deployments and separations that their families have been facing for the last decade. Armed Services YMCA Twentynine Palms, (ASYMCA) has many programs and services that fill the void for the families and especially the children. Donations support these programs and ASYMCA is a 501c3 charity. They are not funded and operate completely by donations and are located on the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms. For information about ASYMCA, go to http://www.asymca.org/twentynine-palms-ca. If you would like to donate directly, make checks out to ASYMCA Twentynine Palms. Mail to Twentynine Palms Armed Services YMCA P.O. Box 6002 Bldg.192, Twentynine Palms, CA 92278 or you can donate on their website. Please mention The Sun Lakes Marines. If you need more information, you may contact Woody Catalano at 769-9467 or email to elglo@verizon.net. Thank you. FROM THE GATE 9 GUARD SHACK I've been working at Gate 9 since 1996 and I'm writing to let you all know that I'm here. It seems no one knows about Gate 9. It's been so quiet I've read nearly every book written. Except those Twilight books. Teenage vampires? No thank you. I prefer those true-crime stories. Once an opossum wandered into the Gate 9 guard shack and decided to sit a spell. He enjoyed Cool Ranch Doritos and learned how to shake. I named him General MacArthur. Then one day I came into work and old General MacArthur was playing 'possum really good. Quite the actor. Finally I had to move him out to a bush. I hope he's happy there. Anyhoo, I really enjoy working at Sun Lakes and would love to have someone come to my gate. I'd check their ID and write down their license plate number. Then, if they passed inspection, I'd let them into the compound to see whoever it is they came to see. I imagine they're a granddaughter of the nice couple I see walking everyday holding hands. They have a small white dog that isn't yippy at all. Most small white dogs are yippy, in my experience. I don't know how long they've been married but I'm imagining it's about 47 years. Sure is nice to see a couple holding hands after 47 years. I was almost married once. Sharon was her name. She was nice and all but I don't think she was ready. I think that's because on the wedding day, she went on vacation with her sister to Florida. Anyhoo, stop by and say hi sometime! ~ Gerald Doples, Guard at Gate 9
