| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | DECEMBER 2015 | 3 By George Moyer, SLCC HOA President FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK This is a time of year when we share love and good times with our relatives and friends. When we take the time to reflect on our blessings, renew and take part in various cultural traditions, and give thanks and praise to whatever higher being we believe in. It is also a time when we think about our friends and loved ones who are not with us anymore, and how much we miss them. With all this in mind, I wish for each of you to have the best Christmas, Chanukah, or Kwanzaa celebration ever. It is wonderful how the holiday season seems to bring out the best in all of us. Generally people seem to be a little more tolerant and display more patience at this time of year. Through the pressure of shopping and preparing for the myriad of parties and celebrations, they seem to handle it better, more willing to talk things through and less confrontational. Of course the season ends with a New Year's celebration, a time of promise and new beginnings. It is a time of wishful thinking for better tomorrows. It is also when people make resolutions relating to personal goals of improvement for the coming year. Wouldn't it be great if everyone resolved to maintain the holiday spirit and attitude all year round. Wouldn't it be great if everyone recognized that as residents of Sun Lakes we all have the responsibility to support the ideals and processes that have made our community the poster child for HOAs. Wouldn't it be great if when a resident disagreed with a rule or decision that they worked with the powers that be to address the issue in a civil and respectful way, instead of attacking staff by pounding on their desk or being viciously profane. Wouldn't it be great if instead of using Facebook to assassinate the character of the people who spend hours doing their best to keep Sun Lakes financially sound and beautiful for the very people doing the posting, that we showed understanding, patience, and tolerance. I think so, and I am making this my New Year's wish. I wish everyone would make the Golden Rule their mantra for the coming year. Let's treat everyone as we would want to be treated. Since this is my last message for 2015, I want to give my personal thanks to the Associa-PCM staff for doing a wonderful job this year. Jeremy and company have been terrific in making sure the community was run smoothly, efficiently, and helped the Board traverse many unexpected problems and potential difficulties. I also want to give thanks to the Delegate Assembly. Many people do not know how much value the Board puts in their assistance and recommendations. They are our eyes and ears to the community, and their contributions are priceless to us. This community could not be nearly as successful without the 14 committees that are our trusted advisors. They investigate, review, and make recommendations that the Board relies on in making its decisions. The Delegate Assembly and Committees are made up of approximately 120 volunteers. In addition to these there are another 20 or so volunteer Board members for the three sub-associations. Added to those are the hundreds of residents who run our clubs, groups, and district events. It is easy to see why Sun Lakes is the place to be if you want to live in an Active 55 and over community. Congratulations to all of you for another great year. I can't wait to see what you have in store for 2016. Finally, let me give my heartfelt thanks to my fellow Board members. They have worked countless hours this year to insure that our facilities and common areas are maintained to the highest standards, addressed new state and local legislation mandates, and planned strategically for the future generations of Sun Lakers to be able to enjoy our wonderful community. Sometimes people forget that besides being on the Board each of us is also a resident. We realize that Sun Lakes is a business, but we also know that every decision we make affects us, our friends, and neighbors current and future quality of life. Congratulations on another successful year. Happy Holidays to everyone.
